Virus with Update

Today when I ran my Winamp to play some music, I had a notification upgrade to winamp 5.

So I did I clicked on your web site and chose the free download of winamp.

A pop up came up saying download is taking place and after a while I had the file on my6 hard drive.

Then I decided to run the file after closing my winamp, up another box popped telling me that it was checking and verifying the file any way after about 15 minutes all activity stopped and nothing else happened.

so I minimised the explorer I was using to see if winamp had installed and to my shock and horror all my desktop had disapeared, further checking revealed that all my documents and user files had gone, Norton antivirus had stopped working and so had my norton ghost 14.

I have started re installing my computer from scratch this is going to take about 3 days in total and I am very unhappy.

Windows Vista Ultra 64

I have been in the computer industry for 25 years and never ever seen anything liek this before I am abgrey and so pissed off.

NEVER EVER AGAIN WILL I EVER TRUST OR INSTALL ANY PRODUCT THAT HAS EITHER AOL STAMPED ON IT OR EVER TOUCH ANOTHER WINAMP PRODUCT AS LONG AS I LIVE AND AFTER LOOKING ON THE GOOGLE SEARCH I HAVE FOUND MORE THAN ONE INSTANCE OF THIS HAPPENING.

I AM NOW SEEKING LEAGL ACTION AS TO WHERE I STAND WITH THIS, AND IF WINAMP AND AOL ARE AT FAULT I AM GOING TO TAKE LEGAL ACTION.

GOODBYE WINAMP AND AOL.

There are no viruses in the Winamp installer from www.winamp.com/player

At a guess, the virus was already present on your system,
and it was just a coincidence that you happened to install Winamp at the time.

There's a dimwit for you. His anti-virus is not working and he blames his problems on the first thing he installs afterward. Are you sure you've been in the biz for anything longer than 3 days?

FYI, your post has already made it impossible for you to sue anybody. You have already stated your anti-virus program was not functioning. Sucks to be you. :p
