Never before seen problem [/sarcasm]

Hello all.

I would like to inform anyone who cares about a problem I have encountered in WinAMP. I've seen numerous other topics on this, with equally numerous solutions, none of which have worked.

So far, it has happened twice; suddenly, seemingly for no reason, WinAMP has begun "crackling" whilst using the DirectSound output plug-ins to play music. Originally, I thought it was my system, but this has been proven otherwise; on 3 other computers (all with higher system specs than mine), the same problem was encountered in the same way.

I have isolated the problem to the following action: attempting to configure the "out_ds" (DirectSound output) plug-in in any way. That means even if NOTHING is changed, as soon as you enter the configuration menu of that plug-in, the crackling appears... and it won't go away.

I tried the various suggestions made by the moderators on similar topics that I read around the forums, but to no avail. Sir Crackle and Madam Pop live.

The thing is, I've heard what WinAMP is capable of, and it's very frustrating to have this sort of setback.

So... any help? And please, don't refer me to the same topics, I know them word by word.

EDIT: Almost forgot

Come on, people, there must be SOME solution to this problem.. I know it's not incurable. -_-'

Have you tried updating the sound drivers? It looks like all three computers have a onboard sound chip. Many older sound chip drivers are rather notorious for being a bit flakey.

I'll give that a try... But what got me was that it was working perfectly before, and it suddenly just started crackling after I went into settings (and didn't touch a thing, joy).

Oh well.

EDIT: That fixed it. Thanks!

I'll just, to be cautious, stay away from the settings for now.
