App Crash Problem
Hi all,
All of a sudden after years of troublefree Winamp usage I start Winamp and get the following message from Windows: Winamp has stopped working Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: winamp.exe Application Version: 5.5.6.2512 Application Timestamp: 4a4b9109 Fault Module Name: gen_ml.dll Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0 Fault Module Timestamp: 4a4b9038 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 0001fb89 OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.256.1 Locale ID: 3081 Additional Information 1: fd00 Additional Information 2: ea6f5fe8924aaa756324d57f87834160 Additional Information 3: fd00 Additional Information 4: ea6f5fe8924aaa756324d57f87834160 This problem appeared out of nowhere using V5552. I uninstalled it, reinstalled it and got the same problem. Downloaded the latest version, installed it after uninstalling previous version and got the same problem again. I've tried numerous fixes described in these forums but the problem still persists. I've tried cleaning the Windows registry etc. but no luck. Can anyone help me with this problem? My System is: Intel core 2 duo processor 2.33 ghz 4 gb ram Windows Vista ultimate 32bit 500gb HD (Plenty of room left) 512 mb nvidia graphics thanks. |

I don't know what you mean by full uninstall/install information. I uninstalled winamp, deleted any leftover files, rebooted then did a clean install, installing full version with all options (Plugins) checked. The only info I forgot to mention was that I have a Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS card and using directX 10. I followed your link and read about the gen_nomad.dll and it doesn't exist in my plugins folder. What I don't understand is how this happend after Winamp has been running flawlessly on my system for months.
Thanks for your quick reply |
If you had read Sawg's link "full uninstall and reinstall", you would have seen that you need to go through the registry to remove all references to Winamp, reboot, THEN reinstall Winamp clean.

Have you posted a hijack this log here? If not, please post one and it will be looked at. At that point, we'll know where to go (I hope).

Thanks Doc, I've attatched a hijackthis log file for someone to view. I've tried everything suggested (I think!) but it's getting to the point where I may have to get another player as I just can't work all this stuff out. I seem to be digging a deep hole for myself here.

I didn't see anything unusual in your hijackthis log, but I did notice you are at VIsta SP1. Any reason for not going to SP2?
One thing to make sure of (and it may have been mentioned already) is that you have no 3rd party plug ins. Again, I would review the sticky in Tech Support Forum tab. If nothing rears its head, we'll have to dig into it some more. |
I don't have any particular reason for not going to Vista SP2, just havent got around to it. I definately do not have any 3rd party plugins installed, in fact the crashing of Winamp happens as soon as I reinstall it after completely uninstalling previous verson as outlined in Sawg's post. What's really annoying is that I know I hadn't installed or downloaded anything suspicious and yet went to play music the other day and the "Appcrash" just happened out of nowhere. I'm at the point where I may have to re format PC as I've tried everthing I know to make it work and I really don't want to use another music program. Let me know if you have any other ideas to the solution to my problem. Thank you very much for putting in the time and effort to help me.
