Shared settings?

Is there any way to set up 5.56 to work in the old manner using shared settings? I tried installing an older version (5.35), and it had asked before if I wanted shared or new behavior, but it didn't do that this time on Windows 7 64 bit, nor did it do it on Vista 32 bit.

Should I go into the archives and get an even older version?

delete paths.ini from the winamp program folder
