Backup Ipod
I understand that Winamp 5.56 can backup an Ipod.
I can see my Ipod under portables but what happens if I try to back it up i.e. Sync? Will the songs on the Ipod be added to my Media Library. This is not what I want, as the Ipod songs are mainly lower quality versions of the FLAC files on my desktop media library. All I really want to do is to copy all the songs on the Ipod to a folder on my desktop as a backup. Is this possible? |
Whenever you press 'sync' you will be presented with the number of songs that are not on the iPod and will be transferred to the device AND the number of songs on the iPod and not on the computer.
If you press 'more info' you can see a list of these songs and for the songs on the iPod you can select one of three options i)Leave them ii) Delete them iii) Copy them to your PC (Default directory set up in preferences I guess) You can also select which songs to transfer. So basically, you can do what you want - and nothing happens until you hit OK |
I also should have said that you can probably temporarily change your default music directory to an empty folder and sync your iPod with that. In that way, your iPod music doesn't end up in your music folder. (I haven't tried this)

Thank you for your replies.
I have been trying to sync to a defined folder:- D:\User\athegn\My Documents\My Music\Ipod I have cleared the current watch folders and added the above and cleared the media library. I then pressed "Sync" and was told that there are 4278 songs on the Ipod not in the Media Library. I selected "copy them to the local media library". It seems to copy the files to:- D:\Music to SD, the destination folder for ripped tracks, not the Ipod folder I want? Is this supposed to happen? |
