VUs, Milkdrop, App detect...etc
Hi,
I did a 2nd clean install to be sure about any problems, and it seems to have cured the milkdrop issue, maybe the DX install had a hiccup? but all seems to be in order now.

Thanks for clearing up when the app detector is for, i'll be interested to see what features are to come on the website..

Agreed with you regards to the VU's, like you say, they don't generally move that much in their real purpose, but in their current winamp incarnation, they are very lifeless compared to previous versions..

So, its seems to be running sweet now, no bugs to report (apart from the virtual disk lockup)

I will say i'm not a fan of the new osd video control box, it does look nice, but its very large! and there appears to be no way to set the time it remains on screen, as i feel it stays a little too long considering its obtrusive size.

Thanks again for your work...

Thanks for the information Benski. Its very much appreciated. Make sure to test it well (after changing) in both the Modern skin and Bento, and especially Bento so it doesn't sit still on maxed for many seconds. That looks so weird. Its just maxed out and doesn't move for many seconds..

And what about the normal spectrum analyzer? I know you haven't changed anything with it but it seems a bit slower for some of us with 5.57 beta. Maybe you could optimize it a little? ;)

Looks good :)

5.57 Beta still affected by Winamp 5.5x bug with "Unsynchronisation" flag in ID3v2 tags :(
It doesn't good for the one of the best audio player for Windows to not fully support standard of main audio player function (I am about MP3 and this of cause mean its tags also).

I'm testing the Beta Winamp, I did a clean install, it's working fine, just a few things (all the videos that I'm talking about them are playing locally in the Folder "Video" in my local hard drive D:, most of the are downloaded from Facebook or YouTube and other are Downloaded from Other Sources, none of them has problem in Media Player Classic from K-Lite Codec Pack or native media player of Windows XP/Vista/7):

1. Some FLV videos (such as some of the videos downloaded from YouTube) have a color-bar in bottom while playing (Nullsoft Flash Decoder 1.3), some times it get half of video. (Screenshot is Capture 1 and 4 in Zipper Attach File)

2. in the beginning of video playback you cannot seek video, you need to wait 3-4 seconds before seek, also after seek it happens again. (I feel it look like a buffering issues and mostly in FLV files(Nullsoft Flash Decoder 1.3))

3. I found no option to set video playback color settings (to set 0-255 or other range, I want to use lower range, the default options don't show colors nice!).

4. yet Winamp has no MPEG-2 codec, also it does not works with CyberLink PowerDVD 9 codec (PDVD9). when I've PDVD9 installed, wianmp start playing only audio of clip and when it stop playing, Winamp crash. it does not works with MS DTV-DVD but don't crash. at least recommended a high-quality codec to use with your nice Player! I've seen it works with ELECARD and not bad quality, but it has impact on Windows Media Player, I wish there was a plugin to install for winamp and give it capability of play MPEG-2 videos.

5. when installing and configuring Winamp, it does not set itself as default player for ".mka", ".ac3", ".divx" and many new formats which Winamp can play but don't register itself as default player for...

6. During Seek files, after seek video freeze for 2-3 seconds but audio keep playing, I hope that freeze being solved.

7. after using Next/Previous buttons to move between video clips in a play-list, videos loose accept-ratio, videos become tall and I lose bottom of videos.

8. if I don't disable the "close video window after playback ends" every time I go to next video in playlist, winamp big bento skin back to library and I must click on video tab again.

9. in Windows 7, Winamp launch slower than Windows Media Player to start playing a single file, can Winamp do some tweaks in their player to solve this problem? for example if Media player is my default program, when I double click on a single video, it open and start playing video in a beautiful and elegant window quickly (when whole media player is closed too), but with winamp as default player, I must wait for much more seconds, I love this feature of Windows Media Player, may Winamp do something like that? not something like older skins which has a separated window for video, I mean a separated Video Player! not video window, it may help winamp play files faster.

10. yet in the beta version I've problem with "Nullsoft Playlist Generator" which crash winamp during scan (my Library is +16000 file and it crash in phase 4 after going above 6000 files which I guess it might be problem with some of musics and I don't know what file it is that crash winamp).

11. Colors during playback are not stable some times they get squared-squared in other colors and also they go out of their place (Screenshot are Capture 2 and 3 in zipped capture).

12. video resizes (Half/Normal/Double) does not work!

else than Winamp essentials I've installed no plugin in Winamp. my signature has some info too.

I would attach other info such as DX-Diag to next post.

and in this post I've attached system info and DXDiag info.

@boelectronic

1. Hmm, I can't reproduce the problem... at least not as badly as in your screenshots.
I've seen a thin green line along the bottom of the fullscreen for some FLV files, and also some NSV...

2. I think it depends on the seektable of the video file...

3. Hmm, not going to happen for 5.57
We were hoping to add brightness & contrast controls, but even that is looking doubtful now.
Maybe for the next release :-(

4. We don't have an MPEG-2 license.
MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 playback hasn't changed.
The DirectShow plugin (in_dshow) still plays MPEG-1/2 video.
Just use ffdshow mpeg-2 decoder, like before.

5. Not much we can do about that. You'd need to add those extensions to in_dshow config extension list yourself.
If already done, then those extensions should still show on upgrades.

6. See 2. It also depends on the format/extension...
All video types? Or just specific ones?

7. Can't reproduce

8. Known issue. Fixed for final release...

9. Winamp opens instantly for me
(Intel i7 920, 6Gb ram, GeForce GTX 295, Win7 64-bit)

10. Nothing's changed with ml_plg in this release.
Most common cause of crashes are corrupt mp3's/tags.

11. Can't reproduce

12. Can't reproduce. Working fine here.

@BugMaster

Yup. It's still in the internal bugtracker.
Maybe for 5.58 (or whatever version # comes next) we'll implement a brand new id3v2 parser.
Alas, the fix (for the current parser) isn't so simple...

Thanks DJ Egg for reply

as what I said FLV ones are worse, but it happens with some other files with other formats too (not bad like FLV).

also other problem with seeking file is when I was playing a video with below information, after seek, audio keep playing interrupted, and I needed to seek again and file keep playing normal, I seek again and problem happen again and with seek again play normal, funny huh?!

I don't want to chide, just I want to help by reporting things I see.

Since you talk about videos and the video window etc here, I'll think I post this:

Prefs (CTRL + P) -> Video -> "Resize video window to fit video"..

When using Bento / Big Bento, this option should be UNchecked by default. It could remain checked as default for other skins, but when switching to Bento (for the first time / OR preferably before eventually changing this option), this option should be UNchecked by default. Its quite logical.. I mean, its a SUI skin and the whole damn skin resizes because of this option + the video? ;)

MrX_1980 15th December 2009 19:56

Is this right (two uninstall "strings" in Programs and Features) ?

DJ Egg 15th December 2009 20:17

@MrX_1980

Yup, one of those should be Winamp Application Detect (for the browser plugins).
Fixed already :-)

(was hoping no-one would see that, lol)

By the way, if you want it to be fixed on your system, then you'll need to uninstall Winamp Application Detect before installing Winamp 5.57 Final (then after installing Winamp 5.57F, and assuming you don't uncheck the browserplugins option, the Add/Remove Programs CP entries will be correct).

MrX_1980 16th December 2009 16:03

@DJ Egg
Thx for the info!

I will uninstall it now and wait for the final (only some hours away :-)

DJ Egg 17th December 2009 01:15
