The first thing I did after upgrading to Winamp 2.63 is to look for profanity in whatsnew.txt. To my utter disappointment, there is none.
Instead I found this delighting new feature: Streaming improvements (authentification, proxy authentification, ... Now, I've gone to the HTTP Proxy field of the Preferences page, and tried each of the following:

host:port (e.g 180.19.7.231:8080)
user:password@host:port (e.g. griffin:mypass@180.19.7.231:8080)
user:password/host:port (e.g. griffin:mypass/180.19.7.231:8080)
None of these seem to work. They returned either "407 Proxy authorization required" or "403 Proxy denied fulfilling request". (That old convoluted solution using the "stone" utility continues to work, of course. So it shouldn't be a problem with my username/password or proxy settings.) Does anybody know how to correctly setup the HTTP proxy field for authenticating proxies? Proxy authentication works like a breeze now. Does the new feature "justin can't code" have anything to do with the first two features? http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/tongue.gif
quote:
Ah who am I kidding you can download Winamp 2.64 if you can find it!

Hmm... There's a secretive air to it, this quiet 2.64 release. Am I supposed to keep it that way? http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/wink.gif |

2 No obvious help on syntax of proxy, port, id, and password 3 id :password/proxy :port seems to try (says "Resolving proxy" for a while (several seconds)) 4 Then says "Error resolving proxy" 5 :( 6 Any help out there? [This message has been edited by mdbsoftware (edited June 07, 2000).] |

Thanks Griffin. It works!

I'm running 2.64, and was very glad to see proxy authentication support added as well. I set my proxy line as you indicated, and it worked for about a week, now same 'ole-same 'ole. Settings are unchanged. Anybody else run into this?

I have enjoyed Winamp for quite awhile now, but not being able to connect through my proxy is getting annoying. Why hasn't Winamp put in a clear setting for username, password, and the proxy. RealJuke has a great place to manualy input the needed information for a proxy. Why doesn't Winamp have something simular? I would use those other media players, but I don't want to. Winamp is the one I enjoy using.
