video skips a few secs back when resuming playback from pause

Anyone encountered this issue? sometimes it can even skip back a few minutes if paused for too long
It doesn't affect avi videos. It happens to mkv and mp4 which most of my videos are, so it can get really irritating.

Currently using winamp v5.58 with k-lite codec pack.
This problem already happened back in july when i downloaded it.

There could be several reasons. Starting from bad headers in the video containers. Especially avi files (yeah, i read that your files are mkv and mp4) can produce massive issues while seeking, if the header isn't correct.

A bad header additionally corrupts the video preview in Windows Explorer under Win7 as well.

VLC player has an option to rebuild some incorrect headers, so that seeking works great, but not for all files it will work. There are tons of other programs/tools, which check the video containers for issues as well.

Another issue could be the codec pack. have you ever tried an alternative codec pack, like ffdshow (surely after you uninstalled k-lite)?

It would be also interesting, what Winamp video decoders you're using, please post a list of your installed plugins

omg it worked!

I uninstalled k-lite codec pack and installed FFDShow MPEG-4 Video Decoder alone.

But I don't quite understand why
I've always thought k-lite codec pack also included the FFDshow?

it also depends on what version they were bundling, how it was being used in conjunction with everything else they install - as it could have been another codec taking control when it shouldn't have been (as generally the codec packs seem to cause more issues than their worth based on the support issues i've seen in here over the years).

In most cases you really just need ffdshow. K-Lite bundles a lot of other junk, which isn't needed. And it's well known, that all these codec packs provide more trouble than they should.
