Winamp unable to play Video in Win7 32bit

Before I begin I wish to mention the Forum search tool needs improvements since it removed the 7 from a "windows 7" search.

I have been a long time user of Winamp. I always liked the easy usage to play my music, TV episodes or dvd's on my computer in one place and not need to use allot of different programs to play them. Unfortunately this is one issue i have not been able to solve and so I need some assistance.

I installed Windows 7 32bit on my server which was XP before to allow me to play videos to my tv. This way I can do other things at the same time on my main computer which is using Windows 7 64bit and works fine. My fathers computer had Win 7 32bit installed and is getting the same issue. I tried windows 7 Beta and never had a issue until the Windows 7 32bit came out. I installed Winamp 5.58 right after installing Windows I also installed the K-Lite Codec pack Full version 6.20 with default settings.

When I play a avi video I get full audio but the video is either black or on some videos shows the first frame only. I have tried the windows media player and media center which do play fine but take up more memory and cpu then winamp.

Let me know what program tests you need me to run to solve this.

If you run latest Winamp and have installed all decoder plugins, the avi files will be decoded by Nullsofts new and own decoder, so it won't use K-Lite.

Check under Preferences > Plugins > Input if "Nullsoft AVI Demuxer" and "Nullsoft Matroska Demuxer" are installed. If so, Winamp's native decoders will be used instead of the own provided by your codec pack.

You could try to delete both plugins. Then go to Preferences > Plugins > Input > "Nullsoft DirectShow Decoder" and make sure, that ;AVI;MKV are in the extension list.

Then Winamp will use the installed directshow filters (k-lite in your case) to decode the videos.

Otherwise make sure, that all your drivers, especially mainboard and graphic driver are up to date and try a better codec pack, like ffdshow, which is the recommenced in this forum.

Thanks for the advice Koopa. I must admit I did forget to reinstall the Nvidea drivers for the replacement card that went into it. Now corrected.

I tried the steps you posted:
- Winamp codecs are present and working since i can get the very first frame of any avi.
- I tried your removal steps and setup as DirectShow. No change. Still get first frame only.
- Tried removing it on purpose as well with only klite present. Again first frame only.

Both Winamp only and Winamp with K-Lite codec pack get the same issue still yet worked fine when it was windows XP. Yet if I play in windows media player it plays fine though not in a setup that works as good.

Any further thoughts?

I decided to just now try and play 1 episode on each of my collected shows. I was surprised that some did play correctly. Hercules with Kevin Sorbo seems to play no trouble. My own converted from MKV to AVI Gundam Wing works fine aswell. But Holmes on Homes doesn't play the video past the first frame.

I hope this might be a clue to the cause. I do know that AVI can be packed with different codec's allow it to play. As far as I can tell it's windows 7 32bit is the cause some how.

IF this is not solvable I plan to see if I can put a older windows on it again to solve the issue. Better then to have to play individual episodes in Windows media player or have to play the enter list and spend 10 minutes skipping to the later episodes to get continuous play.

Is there any programs that can be used to check whats in a avi? this might learn why some are working.

Sorry skechersale but only copying my questions isn't useful. Since I have had others in my family come up with the same issue I figured it should be well known. If it is not a known issue then my information can help resolve it for others by making it known.
