Autotag Not Working

Hi all,

I am new to Winamp and so far I love it! However, I'm experiencing a strange problem with the autotag feature.

I've been using autotag for a lot of my songs and it was working fine. Now all of a sudden, I go to autotag some of my music just as I was before and it won't update any song information, even after I restart Winamp.

I right-click on an artist, song or album (doesn't matter which), select Sent To > Autotag. Then as the window appears I wait for the song(s) status to say Done, then I click Check All and Apply Changes. Sometimes there is the occasional song that will have the autotag status of Unsure, I don't know what this means or if that is a problem?

This is exactly the same process I have done before and it has worked perfectly, I don't know why it isn't working now! Any ideas? It goes through the autotag process ok but no information about any song, album, genre, year, or anything changes. Is there some setting I may have unknowingly altered to disable autotag?

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Cheers,
N1CK0

make sure the file has the checkmark in the left side when you apply the changes, and reboot the computer if that doesn't work.

Thanks for the reply. I do make sure the boxes are checked when I click Apply Changes, as I said I click Check All to mark all files. However this still doesn't not update any song info. Any other ideas?

Cheers,

Hmm I think I have some bugged songs, that's all. The songs I'm trying to autotag won't play at all :S

If you are using Vista/7 and you're using a limited user account, make sure, that you have write permissions in the folders, where the files are located. If the files are located for example in the program dir, Winamp cannot re-write the files to update the tag infos.

Otherwise provide more infos about your system, including a list of your installed plugins. Take a look at the pinned thread in this forum.

make sure the songs aren't 0 bytes, and in addition to hat koopa said you could also check them out using www.mp3tag.de

Ok after looking into it a bit more I think it's because I (stupidly, without thinking) moved the files to a different location, Winamp cannot play or autotag the songs as the program does not know where they are located.

So that then leads me to the following question. Is there a quick way to remove the previously relocated (non-playable) songs from my library and adding them again (from the new directory, so they are playable)?

It would be useful if Winamp told you that the songs could not be found as a newbie like me had no idea what was happening!

the best way to maintain your library is to have a fixed location, and instruct winamp to "watch" that folder / location. its in prefs, under media library. also make sure "remove missing files" is checked.

you'd be best off clearing your media library first, before rescanning using watched folders.
