WinAmp Volume
I'm an avid fan of WinAmp, but there seems to be an issue with how volume is controlled with this program.
Problem: Whenever I start WinAmp, it works perfectly. The problem arises when I try to watch a YouTube video or something else with sound. When I begin playing a YouTube video, the sound is at the same level as that of the WinAmp sound. So for example, if in WinAmp, the sound is at 80%, the sound will be at 80% in the YouTube video, regardless of the YouTube volume setting. What I have done to try and fix this: I've tried the procedure suggested of going to "Preferences / Output / waveOut output v2.1 (d) [out_wave.dll]" and un-checking the "Enable" attribute check-box underneath "Volume Control", but unfortunately, this then prevents me from controlling the volume from within WinAmp. In my opinion, I should be able to control WinAmp's volume... Do we have to pick between the poisons here? In my mind, I keep thinking that we should be able to adjust every volume of every application in respect--or proportion--to the system's "master volume." Any help or insight with this is appreciated. |
Try using DirectSound output instead of waveOut
Winamp > Ctrl+P > Plugins > Output > highlight/select > DirectSoundThe highlighted plug-in is the current/active one. DirectSound allows Winamp’s volume to be more independent. |
Thanks for the reply, JonnyMac (and sorry for my late reply--school, work, etc.)
As for my issue, I tried what you suggested and found that no DirectSound option existed. So I went to update everything (drivers, I mean) and that gave me the option--which worked. Thanks again. :.) |
