Crashing on opening stream

1 Attachment(s)
Alright, firstly:

Compaq Presario
AMD Athlon XP 2600+ (2.13ghz)
480MB RAM
Sound:Realtek AC97
Video: S3 ProSavage DDR
Windows XP sp1
DirectX 9.0a
Winamp version 5.581 (Full/Standard)

Now, on to the issue:

Whenever I try to play a stream, winamp gives me an immediate error stating "Winamp has encountered a problem and needs to close." The data the error report contains is as follows:

AppName: winamp.exe AppVer: 5.5.8.2985 ModName: winamp.exe
ModVer: 5.5.8.2985 Offset: 000294c1

This happens with the few streams I've tried, most of which are .nsv I believe. It also, for some reason, seems to have an issue playing other video (I tested an mpeg4), but audio seems okay (tested an mp3).

I recently lost my laptop which this all worked fine on, and the computer I'm using now I'm not too familiar with, but I'm just utterly lost as to why this might be happening. I tried updating my video drivers, I uninstalled and reinstalled winamp (full uninstall, as shown in another thread, and clean reinstall), and it still gives me the error. I've tried other players supposedly capable of playing .nsv (though I'm not too familiar with them), and they give me errors as well. This seems like it might be more of a problem with my system itself and not winamp, but seeing as this is the first I've encountered this particular problem, I figured I'd ask you folks about any ideas you might have.

Thank you in advance, and if there's any other pertinent information I didn't include that you might find useful, just let me know.

Please provide a DirectX Diagnostic log...
1. Start button > Run icon
2. type dxdiag > OK button
3. give a moment for the info to be processed > click 'Save All Information' button > save to a easy folder
4. attach the DxDiag.txt file in your next post

Hmmm, you mentioned that you have troubles with other video formats . Were you having troubles playing files locally (from you hard drive)? If so try installing FFDshow. It is a set of DirectShow filters/codecs for video playback. Click here for more info, that will bring you to the video section of the Trouble Shooters sticky and there will be a link for FFDshow. As mentioned, installing FFDshow will provided system wide support for various video formats.
