album art
I have read most if not all of the tech support regarding album art, but none of it seems to apply to me. I am running XP, I do not have Windows Media Player enabled, I do use iTunes and that is where most of my album art came from. However, I have an album name.jpg in EVERY album folder. This I did myself since iTunes does not move the image to the main album folder itself. However, upon loading all my music into Winamp it decides, at random, not to show some of these jpegs. Each .jpg is the name of the album (i.e., Cher's album greatest hits is Greatest Hits_Cher.jpg), I thought at one time maybe it was because of a special character: It wasn't. I thought it was png's that I converted to jpgs that gave it a hard time: No. I thought it was because of the size of the image: Nope. I have racked my brain and I cannot seem to figure this one out. Additionally, I can, with some of them, go into the View File Info and manually add in the album art (it takes me to the jpg in the album folder when I select Load Image) but others won't load at all (even though the jpg is IN the folder!). Why will it not display the album art automatically if it is linked to the folder? Honestly it just doesn't make sense. And I really don't want to do this manually like I tried. Please help, oh vast universe of the internet...

what i do, to work with wmp/windows OS and winamp best, is put a Folder.jpg in every album folder. in addition to that i have a copy of that Folder.jpg made, also in the dir/folder.
so you could use mp3tag or something like that, some batch command, to take whatever art file it finds in your folders, and make a copy called Folder.jpg in every folder, and that should work well for windows/winamp. |
Uh... Okay. Um, I don't really know how to do any of that... But I suppose I'll back up my stuff and experiment... Thanks.

yup good suggestion
tons of things will automaticly read the folder.jpg such as winamp, explorer, wmp, tag&rename etc and you dont know how to do that ? all he's saying i think is rename your files (to folder.jpg / one in each album/folder) |
I don't know about you, but personally I don't want to sift through 2,757 folders to change 2,757 jpgs to folder.jpg. There is NO reason why winamp should be reading most of the jpgs but not all of them. There is really no excuse for it at all. And frankly having to personally change 2,757 files is a complete waste of my time when winamp shouldn't have this problem at all.
And I said I don't know how to use the mp3tag software (which supposedly will change the 2,757 for me... not sure how THAT works). Not that I couldn't change a file name.... So please read closer before accusing someone of not knowing how to do something. It's rude. Clarification: When the jpg is named folder.jpg... Are you telling me to name it "folder" or to name it the album name folder? Like if the main folder is My Music, then I have Queen (artist), and then the album inside that folder is "Classic Queen", the jpg inside that folder is supposed to be named "folder.jpg" or "Classic Queen.jpg"?? Because if it's the second one, all my jpgs are named after the folder... |
settle down, no one is attacking you.
when i say Folder.jpg i LITERALLY mean "Folder.jpg" this is what works best with windows/wmp/winamp in my exp. your jpgs may not work b/c you might have variation between the jpg filename and the album name in the files tag. just to clarify, i was saying leave all your art files in place, but use an app or batch command to copy each one where it is, and have the copy named Folder.jpg |
I am not really sure how the mp3tag software works... I'm having it read the directory but I can't seem to find the place where I change jpg names...
Also, there is no variation in the filename and album name. Thus why I don't know why the jpgs don't work, because I did consider that as an option. But I'll try to do the folder.jpg thing although judging on past luck it's pretty unlikely. I also am not even seeing my album art in the program... Is there a setting I'm missing? |
mp3tag may or may not do it. you might have to ask in their forums or google around a bit. again, you don't want to delete or rename your EXISTING art files, you want to COPY them and have the new copies all named Folder.jpg
that is the goal. as to why it isn't working, i can only suspect its something unique to you, b/c winamp will use the art if the album TAG and the album art FILENAME are an EXACT match. i haven't seen anyone else report a problem with that. but you could also try cleaing your ML and rescanning from scratch, and see if you get better results. you will lose playounts and ratings and so on from the ML if that matters to you, but worth a shot. you could use the backup tool to save the info if you wanted to try it but not lose the data (search forums on backup tool). |
