No updated Essentials for this release. Playlist Sidecar is now available as external download: Download Playlist Sidecar for Modern Skin v1.3.

The installer uses the same code, like the old Essentials installer did, so you can completely uninstall the sidecar without breaking Winamp Modern skin. But use the thing at your own risk, there won't be any guarantee, that it's working.

osmosis 17th March 2011 22:15

Yay, new things. Thanks!

ujay 18th March 2011 00:04

* Improved: [ml_local] Search & View load speed optimizations (~20% faster!)

This is something Winamp has needed for a long time, it was starting to look a bit sad compared to other players.

Huge improvement for Win7 users who should see at least 300% improvement.

Great stuff.

I prepared it on the 13th in one of the hidden forums (bugtracker).
We were actually going to release it on Mon 14th, but we came across a few bugs and hitches which delayed it until yesterday.

Re: public beta
We usually only do those for major releases, eg. 5.x0 and sometimes some 5.x5, not the 5.x1 type releases which are more than often just bugfix maintenance releases....

MrSinatra 18th March 2011 08:06

thx for the insight. i have to echo ujay, the UI is much faster. i have ~50k tracks but i can really fly around them now... thankful for the official 0-100 rating for flac as well!

however, what does this mean?

Fixed: [pmp_android/usb] Use <Artist> for folder name if <Albumartist> missing

when i xfer songs, all of which HAVE album artist tags, they [the AA tags] don't seem to work on the droid! comp albums show up multiple times, ie. once for each individual artist on the cd.

should that now be fixed?

DJ Egg 18th March 2011 13:03

Oops. We still need to add some code to the WFA apk so it actually uses the new Album Artist code in pmp_wifi/android...

Thanks for pointing it out. Will be fixed in next apk.

And there was me in the first post saying not to discuss issues with the apk in this thread, lol.

Same here, Multi installer download doesn't work.

[Edit] I've just fixed the Multi national download link in first posting

Hey! who snuck this one in under our noses?! Usually I get an email that the old thread is being closed. Sneaky Sneaky!

Thanks for all of the hard work. This new version is great!

DJ Egg 18th March 2011 13:35

Hi Juanus. Yup, best ever :-) Thanks.

@Chrissyx @Koopa
Cache flush in progress. Download links should be working again soon...

Funny, I don't remember how the old function worked and I can't exactly tell what was tweaked. But this is cool!

This is definitely the best winamp ever. I didn't want to crosspost, but I think this link says it all for me. http://forums.winamp.com/showpost.ph...2&postcount=98

Impossible. I still fail to see any advantage in the new function, it just does, what you already can do with the search field on top. Additionally there are some localization quirks. I already gave my feedback a few times, never got any response from the devs, so I guess we have to live with it.

Juanus:

The old function was a 'Play' function instead of a filter.

-----
I also wonder, that nobody noticed, that the 'Create Playlist' button was replaced by a 'Generate Playlist' button, which isn't listed in the changelog, hehe

Omega X 20th March 2011 08:25

The hell is a "New ARO"?

Its getting to the point where addon software doesn't require need a description anymore.

MrSinatra 20th March 2011 08:54

hmm, seeing a strange issue... when doing "view file info" from ML or by doubleclicking the songticker, i get a bit of a long pause. when first opening winamp, it isn't too noticeable, but the longer i use winamp and have it open, after doing ML scans and so on, the pause grows longer and longer... anyone else seeing this? it def seems off somehow...

Alpha2k6 20th March 2011 18:30

There is something called Uniblue registery cleaner bundled with this release.. not sure why its not even mentioned in this thread.. ill quote a comment from Betanews site.

"Watch out for 'Uniblue's Registry Cleaner' attempting to install this almost fakeware garbage."

Now I don't know this might be perfectly legit software bundled.... but seems strange not to even mention it here.

The Winamp Devs don't get much choice over what the AOL marketing people bundle with the product. Just untick it and avoid it along with the other page of AOL Add-ons - and remember that any pennies that AOL can make for Winamp is a "good thing".

Eset Nod32 puts a stop to it anyway, looks like they've had enough of these 'How about you install this as well' in the installers.
Had the same with a MediaInfo update this week.

Thanks for the new stuff, faster ML is a huge bonus. :D

That's part of the OpenCandy installer, which shows random software. The OC stuff isn't new, they ship OpenCandy for a few releases now, I don't like the crap either, but it's optional and as long as it allows our favourite player to be free, I can live with it.

But yeah, if they'd ship such crap without the ability to uncheck it, bye bye Winamp. :)

osmosis 21st March 2011 01:46

I always just get the slimmer, unlisted http://download.nullsoft.com/winamp/..._pro_en-us.exe and I didn't even notice there was a new promo bundled in. Same 3 boxes to uncheck like always.

Working fine with v5.61 and Modern Skin  , thank you very much, appreciated  , please don't abandon this superb add-on/essential.

One more little issue: now with the new 2.8.1 WavPack plug-in I can't access its config :weird: , I only get the about dialog no matter which button I click, did I do anything wrong or did I miss anything :igor: please (I've been upgrading since v5.57 without reinstalling)?

Koopa 22nd March 2011 23:34

Sure thing with the Sidecar installer, since I promised it. :)

The WavPack plugin was updated from a Winamp dev for last Essentials Pack release and Bryant reviewed the code and gave his ok. It uses now Winamp's global settings for ReplayGain etc, as result, the old preferences window became obsolete and was removed. So no worries, it's all right with your config. :)

PS: It's all well documented in the changelog:

Quote:

Updated: WavPack Decoder to v2.8.1
- this adds %family% and %type% support (allows for example loading of the WavPack icon from a Winamp Icon Pack Library)
- can now save ratings directly to the files (if an external plugin reuqests it, for example Winamp's library)
- removed preferences window (now uses Winamp's global ReplayGain options)

:p

Yup, read that, but what about the options relative to correction files, forcing 16-bit output and multichannel please? :(
http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/6269/wvconfig.png

DrO 23rd March 2011 09:38

the correction file and multichannel options are hard-coded on with the new version and the output type is determined by the Winamp playback settings (which makes more sense to be consistent with the rest of the input plug-ins).

if you don't like the new version then there's nothing stopping you going back to the older version but bryant was happy with the changes made and so the version was released.

-daz

DARcode 23rd March 2011 10:23

If what's hardcoded translates into 1) always use correction files when present but don't complain when they aren't and 2) multichannel always enabled I'm absolutely fine with that.

DrO 23rd March 2011 11:13

yeah that's how the defaults have been setup.

how do i visually tell the difference? ie. how do i know which ones need it vs those that don't? how do i confirm all of it successfully installed? is the build # the same before and after?

this bug:

You can check the build number in the about Winamp dialog. Must be 3133 for latest version.

[Edit] release versions don't show the build number, so you cannot verify if you're running latest build or not, yeah that sucks.

Personally I'd prefer a proper 5.61.1 release too, though.

Should work, also any other program should be able to read the current build number, like Windows Explorer.

Nevertheless, just saw, that the date was changed, so it's pretty simple:

v5.61 (x86) - 17 Mar 2011 = older version with SC crash

v5.61 (x86) - 22 Mar 2011 = new fixed version with Kn0tte's Bento tweaks.

Just make sure, that the date is March the 22th. :)

Otherwise someone could write a simple 'Show me the build number of my installed Winamp' tool. :D

[Edit] Here we go: Winamp Version Checker

That thing is so primitive, that I still must laugh, lol

where should i be able to see that date? when i do the lightning bolt, i still get the 17th, even though i applied the patch.

here is what onefornunz just now showed me:

Using Winamp version: 5.61 (Build 3133 FINAL_2011_0317_192702)
Winamp Elevator build: Build 3133 FINAL_2011_0317_192702

thats the same as what i saw yesterday which i posted here:

http://forums.winamp.com/showpost.ph...9&postcount=22

i think the patch didn't work for me!?

naumaxos 23rd March 2011 21:09

sorry if this is posted in the wrong place, but is there a way to change the font in the winamp toolbar in firefox because the letters and icons are really small and it really defeats the purpose of the toolbar's existence

MrSinatra 23rd March 2011 21:17

i just downloaded the patch again, and ran it again. it says it installed successfully, but i see no indication so far that that is true!

the date is still the 17th when i click the lighning bolt, and onefornunz still shows 0317 in the build number!

afaict, the patch doesn't work! ...or it at least doesn't display properly that it did work.

It's possible, that the patch fails. When I did the Winamp Checker (see my edited posting above) I noticed that they probably haven't changed the build number. So both versions, the fixed from March the 22th and the borked from March the 17th have both build number 3133. That's really awkward, I guess a newer build always should have a newer build number, otherwise you start a flood of confusion. :)

So I guess Egg's updater uses a IfNewer file check for installation and it fails, because both files have the same build number. But for sure I cannot say it, because I haven't seen the installer script. Best would be, if you'd download the whole installer again, then it should look like it does on the attached image.

[Edit]When I read the posting below, I'm sure, that the Patch simple ships the wrong winamp.exe.

MrSinatra 23rd March 2011 21:37

1 Attachment(s)
well, i think the patch is bogus. it may update the files that need updated, but if it does, it doesn't show you that it does. the other possibility is that it totally fails. neither is acceptable to me.

so i did what you suggested and ran the full installer and... success! i now show the right date. thx.

still, its pretty clear the patch needs fixed. (see thumbnail for about WITH patch twice applied!)
