http://download.gdownload.nullsoft.c..._pro_de-de.exe is giving me the 3189 installer so is likely a caching issue on the other link. and i'm sure it'll be resolved later today (bear in mind it's only just turned 9am EST i.e. generally the start of the day for most people involved with site updates, etc).

Oh okay, you're absolutely right :) Here it's 15:18 :)
And now I got the Build 3189 file so everything's fine!

Chrissyx 28th October 2011 15:06

Nice, a new update. =)

xpmule 29th October 2011 03:47

Thanks for posting the differences between 3188 & 3189.

And aside from my aggravation with portable media player art sizes
I as usual love winamp and appreciate the free software.
Good job and thanks to anyone involved (Support/Coders/Testers etc)

MrSinatra 29th October 2011 09:39

DrO,

did ur fixes for accurate ML bitrate and filelength reporting make it in?

i still have some short 256s show as 257s.

vodoomoth 29th October 2011 12:51

Hi all,

I truly mean no disrepect to the developers but, being a software engineer myself, I'm wondering why on earth we need to go through the Skin+Associations+online services+feedback each time we upgrade. Is it really necessary when it's an upgrade and not a fresh installation?

The version running minutes ago was from March or May of this year.

At the moment I'm writing this, the "Winamp Setup" dialog is open in the background as I have just installed 5.622 and I'm anxious that the program won't return to the state it was in ten minutes ago. Losing the current playlist, playlists, library folders, play counts and other configuration would piss me off.

Isn't it better to provide access to this dialog from within the program so that we old users can get to the program without trouble? For this dialog is only trouble to me. I hope my opinion would be taken into consideration.

EDIT: I actually lost nothing at all. But I made absolutely no changes, which indicates in my opinion that the dialog was not needed.

kzuse 29th October 2011 15:41

Umm... actually, the Installer of the new version should set all checkboxes just as you had it before. So for a new version, you should just have to hit "Continue" several times. Okay, you should uncheck those things like "Winamp Toolbar", 50 free MP3s and that stuff in the installer.

Also the Startup-Wizard after the installation, should have all options set as before. Current skin, current File Associations etc.

NOTE to the developers: I noticed that the "Winamp Detection Plugins" (don't know the exact English term as I used the installer in German) are checked in the installer ALWAYS, regardless of whether they have been checked before. I don't want them, neither for Firefox nor for Internet Explorer! I also saw that the unchecking of this options is correctly written to the "install.ini" in Winamp's directory, but somehow, it is not read by the next installer...

One of the next installers should be fixed regarding that issue, I think... :)

love this version - been using winamp for 10 years now

Great piece of software and fantastic plugin support.

I am forever grateful to DrO for the plugin wrapper for Enhancer 0.17 plugin and for all the others (TimeAutorestore, close to tray,Findfilesondisk)

Thanks winamp team and DrO !

Keep it up:)

MrX_1980 30th October 2011 07:15

Hello

yesterday there were problems with the shoutcast servers.
I have tried some shoutcast tv stations but instead of a connection timeout Winamp not respond and I have to close Winamp (X or ALT+F4) and then kill the process with the task manager (Win7 x64 Ult de/en SP1).
Please check it why no time out message appear.

And it seems to be impossible to make a screenshot of the "connection window" with the yp.shoutcast.com address and the connection status. Please check the "Z-index" of this window.

Thanks

The Playlist Sidecard lives on!

I'm very happy to report the Playlist Sidecar for Modern Skin v1.3 works fine with Winamp 5.622, Build 3189 (5.6.2.3189) too.

it should have as i committed the changes and i wasn't aware of an older version of the plug-in's code having been compiled for the release. you have re-scanned the files just in case? also weren't there some that still exhibited the issue from the test build or am i just confusing myself? either way i don't have the time to look into it for the time being as it looks like i keep killing SHOUTcast with all of my updates of late :(

it's been like that for a number of releases and as annoying as that is, that's how the installer has been told to work i.e. that it will ignore that option (is why unchecking it with everthing else still checked changes the install type from 'custom' to 'full').

that's good for you - as covered in prior posts, it most likely will work ok (since there's not been any modern skin changes for a while now) but you're on your own with trying to use it.

you're doing quality SC work. its very appreciated by most using it, i assure you.

i haven't done a proper clear and rescan to test it, but otherwise i think its in there. however, yes you are correct that some of my files, all under 15 seconds long i think, do still misreport as 257 in the ML, so keep it on the to do list. thx.

i know in_mp3 got a lot of fixes, like yours, and tag fixes and so on, but the mpeg decoder still lists as 4.97

is that correct?

DrO 5th November 2011 11:50

for anyone missing the queue position indicator in the playlist, i have released v1.2.5 (build 1160) which should resolve the issue with the queue position not appearing (sorry about that).

MrSinatra: not sure on what the version number should be as i know a few plug-ins which had changes didn't see it reflected with the 3188 build but thought it had been covered for 3189 (though cannot check what it should be at the moment).

-daz

MrSinatra 5th November 2011 17:03

i have 3189. i am assuming the fixes i am thinking of were actually made in "in_mp3" (but i can't say for sure as i don't code, just educated guessing) and i think its been at 4.97 for at least a couple versions now. to be clear, i think the fixes are in there, somewhere, i'm just wondering if the version number uptick housecleaning needs done?

5.622 is VERY good tho. so many bugs and issues in the "core" app that have been bothering me have been resolved in the last year or so. the less i have to use other apps, the better!

Stone Free 9th November 2011 17:58

In Windows 7 I no longer have the pause/play/stop buttons available in the preview window that appears when you hover over winamp in the task bar.

Is there some setting I've missed?

MrSinatra 9th November 2011 19:16

its flaky. quit winamp and restart it, or reboot the macine, they should come back.

Pawel 12th November 2011 20:38

Or, you can try special plugin that offer much more:

Ps: And works great :P

Winamp 5.623 Released

First post has been updated accordingly.

Note that this is a forum exclusive (main site update on Monday 12th Dec).
Though all builds in all flavors & languages are up on the server, if you know the filenames...

Early Xmas present :-)

MrSinatra 9th December 2011 22:10

sweet, using it right now... nice list of fixes too.

in_mp3 now 4.98 too, so i guess DrOs fixes are in there. :)

DrO 9th December 2011 23:44

my in_mp3 changes were in the 5.622 release afaik and seems to be from checking with other people (there was no holding back of in_mp3 updates in the 5.622 release).

so i'm not quite sure what you're referring to by the above since we knew it wasn't a 100% solution at the time but resolved most of the length calculation quirks seen from the provided example files.

MrSinatra 9th December 2011 23:47

right right, i was just noting that the ver number hadn't increased, so now its "official" it seems. anyway, new version humming along nicely.

Abdul Jalil 10th December 2011 07:52

Winamp new version is good.

Veckin 20th December 2011 18:18

I just upgraded. To be sure, how do I check my current version of Winamp?

Right-click -> Nullsoft Winamp... should bring up the About window. Alternately you can check the version in the Details of winamp.exe

MrX_1980 18th February 2012 17:09

Hello
Can we expect a new version in the next days/weeks ?

With updates like:
- libvpx 1.0.0 (VP8 Decoder)
- libpng 1.5.8
- lame 3.99.4
- libvorbis 1.3.3
- libjpeg-turbo 1.2.0 (if it is possible to use it)
...

DARcode 20th February 2012 18:07

Better skip LAME 3.99.4 and wait for 3.99.5 if you don't want bloated files in case source is not compiled with certain tools and parameters.

MrX_1980 28th February 2012 19:46

Ok, lame 3.99.5 (and libpng 1.59) is out :-)
http://sourceforge.net/projects/lame/files/lame/3.99/

MrSinatra 28th February 2012 20:32

this looks like the ver to upgrade from 3.98.4 for, but i'll prob give it a week or two to see if any nasty bugs crop up right away... (i use it with EAC)

http://lame.cvs.sourceforge.net/view...?revision=HEAD

DrO 28th February 2012 20:49

there shouldn't be issues with 3.99.5 as it's hopefully the final the bug fix release for the 3.99.x builds (though will have to see what comes out from the rarewares build of 3.99.5 - which i believe should be near enough the same as test build 2).
[edit]
looks like test 2 became final so that makes life easier.
[/edit]

then again it's not like MrX_1980 cannot upgrade LAME anyway as wanted irrespective of Winamp release schedules.

kzuse 28th February 2012 21:44

Fully off-topic, but LAME-related: Did they finally fix the bug that CBR encoding sounds bad and has low-frequency rumbling/bubbling/distortion in it?

That bug was introduced in 3.98.x, but was absent in version 3.96, which is why I only use 3.96 in all my programs including professional Digital Audio Workstations and I also always replace the DLL in Winamp.

Because I prefer CBR encoding.

The VBR encoding always has been fine, also in V3.98 and above.

The bug was filed by me back in 2009 here and has been since come up a few other times in LAMEs bug tracker.

DrO 28th February 2012 21:54

no idea, you'd need to check their changelogs to see.

-daz

MrSinatra 28th February 2012 22:00

i have not noticed a problem, but i am using 256kbps and more rock type music typically.

libpng, libvorbis, zlib (as no one mentioned that) libvpx and lame are all currently updated internally (unless there's more updates of those libraries for whenever there's another Winamp update).

as for libjpeg, i think we only use the standard libjpeg and not the -turbo fork but i'm not too sure for the time being.

Hi, I'm using winamp 5,623 and I'm can't disable the tooltips. I'm using the bento skin and I've already disabled the option under the prefs menu, "Disable tooltips in winamp's main window" and didn't worked. The tooltips still active. Any idea?

DrO 11th March 2012 21:56

it's because that option only applies to classic skins, not modern skins like bento. hence why that option is on the 'classic skins' preference page.

Prefs > Skins > Modern Skins > General tab: Uncheck 'Enable Tooltips'

Its just played Bank Holiday Monday whilst shuffling!

Thanks buddy, I will download now

WildwestGoh 2nd June 2012 04:21

Hi, is it possible to make Winamp portable without relying on 3rd party programs? I believe it still install some files to the system and also uses the registry quite a bit.
Thanks for the great work... =)
