Where do I get a Authhash from?
 

I don't see a link in the wiki page or anywhere else for that matter.

Creating

To create an authhash for a stream then you need to click the Create Authhash link

where's the link??

on the admin summary page as is clearly stated and shown on the wiki page images -> http://wiki.winamp.com/wiki/Image:Starting.png

if that's not there then you need to make sure (and confirm) that you are using the current version of the v2 DNAS and have a source connected - all of which is clearly mentioned on the wiki page.

I think the thing here is that there is no route to the summary page.

I do not get a choice to click on.

I have read somewhere, where it is. But I cannot see the URL in the Authhash docs. I must have been there as I have authhash for my streams, but I cannot see it now.

I see "Stream #1 (Admin Login)" when I access the server

Clock on Admin log in and you do not see it. Takes me to "/admin.cgi?sid=1"

Need to remove the ?sid-1 and there it is.

But is not obvious.

As "Stream #1 (Admin Login)" as in the center of the screen, That is where people will click and not see the top right "Administrator Login " to take you there.

1) You might consider this for release 2 and maybe call "Administrator Login " something like "server login". Having 2 Admins is not clear to users and will leand to many support posts.

2) Puting a route from the page you land on when you click on (Admin Login).

i had though the 'Administrator Login' link on the root server page (/index.html or just the base server ip+port) was obvious enough.

will amend the wiki page shortly to make that clearer on how to do it.

ironically had thought about the 'Administrator Login' link being 'Server Administrator Login' but then thought that people would correlate 'admin login' next to the stream being for the stream and 'Administrator Login' being for the server - guess i assumed wrongly.

WOW I made sence.

This is a different concept from SC1, and people converting from SC1 may well think in an SC1 way. So Admin is Administrator.

you made complete sense and it probably explains why i've already had to answer so many support requests since it appeared n july :)

the main thing i was trying to avoid with making the master admin link too obvious is from people then trying to access that when it's not appropriate i.e. people scraping the page, etc.

i'll also change the 'Administrator Login' to 'Server Login' to hopefully make that clearer in the next release. now to tweak the wiki page (time to roll out my mspaint skillz).

Also you might like to comment on the browser settings needed for CROSS DOMAIN data. These default to not working for getting a key. IE management may be outside the range of this document, and it is fair to assume that people installing Shoutcaster servers know something of browser setup, but it would appear to not always be the case.

Again links from the summary pahe to the wiki may help cut down the support posts as it looks like people do not read/look for/know about the wiki. I was one of those.

I know the interface looks clean and this is spoiling the clean look, but people are a problem.

sounds like you're asking about the details i put in the help thread at http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=331394#IE - would make sense to have that on the wiki as well so weill do that now.

now done and also added in supported the supported browsers part from the forum thread as well.

the best option would probably be to put a 'Help' (to here) and 'Documentation' (to wiki) link in the top left corner of the general and admin summary pages like the screenshot attached (now updated to v2 after a bit more tinkering) - adding it elsewhere will just clutter the headers up too much i think. where were you during the beta phase as this would have been good to do from the get go :)

hey DrO. all the examples i am seeing here is for Win32 server. and whatever you guys talking about here, i do not see it in the SHOUTcast Server v2.0.0.29/posix(linux x86). So my question is, Where do i get this Authhash..

the admin pages and how to acquire an authhash are done the same way for any of the supported platforms so i'm not quite sure why you're not able to find login options even with the amended details from http://wiki.winamp.com/wiki/SHOUTcas...ash_Management - ignore the version / platform shown in the images as they're not even from the current builds.

if that's not there then i cannot really say much as that's the only way to get to it and / or points at the wrong version of the DNAS being used as that page should appear when accessing 127.0.0.1:8000 or serverip:port (depending on how it's accessed) or explicitly adding /admin.cgi onto the server's address which will then prompt for a login - but accessing from the root page of the server is the simpler option.

This is what i am seeing in my admin panel.

Mistah_insane: on your config file, make sure there's no lines with <enter_your_auth_key_here>

if there are then remove them and use the 'reload config' option from the left-hand side of the admin page. this is due to the DNAS not always checking the existing authhash for validity (fixed for the next drop but that's not ready for release yet).

I know that. But Can i use any Authhash ?

there was no need to snap.

as long as the authhash is valid and recognised by the YP then any authhash can be used in other setups (so relays, etc will be correctly merged in the listings) as long as it is by you or agreed on by another station to use. though you can only edit it from the whatever machine's IP matches that used when it was created.
