ID3 / metadata not updated
Two problems, but one more so than the other....
If I add a file to my watched folders, and the ID3 tag isn't right, and I later updated the ID3 tag, Winamp isn't picking up the change. Why doesn't Winamp pick up ID3 changes? That's my main problem. Here's some details in case relevant. I've got my music on an external hard drive attached to another computer in the house (yes, ideally it would be a NAS drive, but it's not). So if the other computer isn't on, Winamp on my laptop (my primary machine, but not practical for having attached storage) can't find the files. Not a huge deal, but it did mean that I had to disable the option to remove missing files from Media Library. (On a side note, this is a tad annoying. In MediaMonkey, for example, it first checks whether it can connect to the location of the library, and if not, well, it says so. It doesn't just assume, oh well, the entire library is missing.) Anyway, maybe me unchecking the "remove missing files" feature has something to do with my ID3 problem or maybe not. Not sure, but I mention it in case. |
Hi AJayy,
I also noticed ID3 changes not being recognized (after a library rescan) when I used a 3rd party tagger to update tags. Changes were recognized when I used the Winamp editor to update tags. I assume the reason to be because the 3rd party tagger did not update the 'last modified date' for the files and the Winamp editor did. It is possible to selected the affected files in the media library, then right click and select the option to reread the metadata for the selected files. I do not believe the option for removing missing files has anything to do with this issue. |
if you make changes to a tag with something other than winamp, winamp will only know that IF winamp later rescans the file POST changes made, AND you refresh the ML view by clicking the nav tree to say "video" and then back to audio, or whatever. (or click the "clear search" box)
as stated, its assumed the other tag editor is modifying the last changed date. thats how winamp knows to fully rescan something. and rereading metadata in ML should also work. this is normal, expected behavior. i have never had winamp not then properly reflect such a change in the ML. if that doesn't solve it, either then the tag or frame is weird somehow, or you have multiple tag types or something like that going on. |
I was indeed using a third-party tagger, so I think that was some of the problem.
I also think user error may have been involved (I overlooked changing some of the fields...doh! :igor:) Thanks for the help, guys! |
