Batch convert mixed format files
I have some 400+ folders (76GB), in one sub folder on my Win 7 64 bit pc, each containing an album. Most albums are in the FLAC format and the rest are in high quality MP3 format.
I want to make a copy of this sub folder but with all the tracks formatted in 128bit MP3; so that I can store them on a 32GB SD card. Can Winamp create such a copy and convert at the same time automatically i.e just set Winamp running and leave, say, overnight? |
Select tracks in Winamp Media Library. Right Click and SEND TO / FORMAT CONVERTER.
A dialog then pops up to let you select where to put the converted tracks, what naming scheme to use, and exactly what you want them converted into. I use this in the same way you do to convert albums from FLAC (and others) to MP3s for the car. |
Thanks
I tried a quick test; will set up a full convert sooc. |
Took over 24 hours but I have converted 6000+ tracks from mp3/flac to 128MP3.
However each track is in a separate folder i.e 6000+ folders. This means that the use I was going to put the conversion maybe will be problematical. The converted music will be copied to a couple of folders and then edited by folder. I was expecting to get the 400+ folders I started with. The editing of 6000 folders will be difficult unless I can figure out a quick way!! |
I think you must of had a typo in your naming scheme. Winamp has the ability to mimic the folders it is ripping from.
For example, on my copy of Winamp I use this: +MP3\<Artist>\<Album>\## - <Title> That gives me MP3 copies in a separate tree to the original, but mimics the same folder structure. I think your quickest answer is going to be bin that original conversion and do it again. But this time just do a small batch first to make sure it is doing what you require. |
Thank you.
Binned as advised. New namimg scheme now running; see what tomorrows final result is. |
Keep an eye on it. You'll soon see if it is building the correct folder structure for you. That naming scheme is very flexible. :)

Thank you.
Now have my converted folder. |
Excellent news. :D
Winamp can be a little odd and technical when you start digging under the hood. Once you twig what the settings mean you can get a lot of power out of it. Fine tune it to your exact needs. I still don't know any other tool that can handle so much while letting you stay in control of it all. |
