Live player embed

Quite blurry eyed after searching the forums I had to finally break down and post a message that I hope someone can help me with.

I am in the process of beta testing my radio station with an off site streaming host. We have chosen to use their free version of the service while we do the development then the plan is to use their paid service to have the stream listed. They do use shoutcast servers.

Currently to listen to the site you have to direct link to their page and the flash player kicks in then you have an option to choose a prefered player.

I would like to embed the flash player into my website that is also in development so that users can directly listen to the stream and not have to navigate away from our site. The hosting service gives us the flash player coding to embed but it will not work unless you have their coding so that advertisements can be seen. They have removed that part of the coding from their FAQ. Thus making this player dead in the water. I have no issue with the adverts being on our site mind you but it makes it very hard to beta test something when they only give you part of the info.

Is there a way around this or is there someone who can supply me with coding that we can use to make this all work with any browser including iphone and android?

then you need to look at a different flash player to embed in the page, it's really that simple if the one you're trying to use but cannot will not do what you want.

Suggest a player

Do you have a player that you could suggest that would cover all browsers that I could download the graphics and coding ? so that it maybe contained all within our site ?

i don't (and i doubt the one which is provided from shoutcast.com would even suit your needs). in most cases you'd need to look at a paid for solution to get what you want from one of the 3rd parties who provide such solutions (that is not something SHOUTcast does).

understandable

Thanks for the quick reply. We were hoping to find a quick solution so that we could continure to beta test the site and stream before shelling out a butt load of cash.

If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

The best (free) player for this is "jPlayer"

http://www.jplayer.org/

why ? ...because its a "dualmode" player
which means its BOTH a FLASH and HTML5 player
and therefore it will play your mp3 stream in ALL BROWSERS and DEVICES

how ? ....its simple, the player itself will check what browser or device your visitor
is using...depending on that it presents itself as either a flash or a html5 player.

It will play in all browsers: IE,FF,Chrome,Safari...etc
it will play in all devices that use, iOs,Android (iPhone,iPad,Samsung...all mobiles)

No need for additional OGG streams (for FF) just one single MP3 format for all

Dont think about "JWplayer" its not the same...
and it has problem with shoutcast-streams
JPlayer works with shoutcast (and other) streams
i use it myself also.

You embed this player on your page(s) and you are done.

Still it is wise to also provide additional separate clickable links
so your radio can also be played in their standalone player (such as Winamp.iTunes,WMP
Realplayer...etc) since they might want to close their browser..or have better control
over the sound (equalizer...etc)

jPlayer is free...and it has very good support...and a good forum
it can be skinned also to your own design...it uses a so called "css sprite-sheet"
you just replace it for your own to get a new look.

Hmmm you spell it out for them...on a silver platter
but they dont seem to understand that many times
others can have good replies that come in 1 or 2 days later.
Shows how (NOT) badly they need a solution.

DrO 28th March 2013 21:22

if you're expecting to get responses back from the original poster in most threads then you are sadly mistaken (and is how most threads on this forum end up). and just because they've not logged back in doesn't mean they've not read it.

Yep thats how this forum is
more or less a one way street
Not exactly very motivating to share specialized and hard to find knowledge.
Its like dumping it in a large black hole.
