OK I just got the latest version of Winamp (2.72) and for some reason it won't play sound files at all. I load a track and I see Winamp is playing the file but the sound won't come out of my speakers. In total desperation I have tried the older versions of Winamp and they still won't work. This also seems to be affecting my other MP3 players (Sonique and MusicMatch 5.1). This has been confusing me for weeks, in a last ditch effort I have been using PCDJ and Windows Media Player 7which is the only thing that seems to be able to play Mp3's.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Good God, how many MP3 players do you possess?

You wouldn't be related to someone a US Navy warship would be named after, would you?

Some file associations may have been messed up. Try turning on, I know some people disagree with this move, the winamp agent and set it up to maintain the file associations.

Make sure both the master volume *and* wav volume are sufficiently high, and make sure the wav volume is not muted (in the mixer). Other than that, can't think of any other reason why they woudln't play. Your file associations have nothing to do with it. File associations only tell Windows which program to load when you double-click an MP3 in the explorer window. If you manually add songs to Winamp's playlist, they should play regardless of file associations. Just wanted to make this point clear.

Well I checked the wav and master volume and put it up to maximum. Didn't work at all. As of right now the only MP3 players that will work on on PC is Windows Media Player 7 and PCDJ. And no I have never been involved with the Navy, I'm not even American.

Since the volume doesn't seem to be the problem, go into the preferences menu, by using ^p, and check in the plugins section. Expand this section by clicking on the plus icon. Now click on output and see which is highlighted. It should be Nullsoft DirectSound.

If not, that might be the problem.
