When you download the latest version of Winamp, do you have to delete the earlier one or does the new one replace it. thanks.

only if you really want to do that and re-configure things (if you've made changes).

so there is no reason to do clean installs everytime (there were cases many many years back in the 2.x days when that was needed and that seems to have persisted) but updating Winamp can be done in-place without un-installing first.
