By the way, go to 'developer' section, and look for a column that talks about making skins. you can find some tools but I don't recommend such programs if you really wanna be an 'artist'.

Well....... I haven't made any 5-star skins yet. (I have two skins registered in the Winamp.com skin archive, and both have 4 stars, but the new skin I'm working on is close to 5.....) But if you take a close look at the 5-stars skin,(not any 5 stars. Some are not as good as other ones) you will see that the theme throughout the skin (Main Window, EQ, Playlist, MB) is very unique, and each buttons and windows are detailed, and 3d-rendered. The choices or color are important, too. (should be balanced) I suggest you use Photoshop, PSP, or something like them. Design each bitmap files manually.

So far, a lecture on making 5-star skins from somebody who hasn't made any 5-star skins yet....

There wuz a 5 star skin made by a skinner.exe b4 adn wuz actually ranked #1 among its category 4 sometime, which is a great injustice 2 all great true skinners (that wouldnt be me). You might be able 2 squeak out a 5 from the reviewers, but itll be butchered by the peeps in the forums.

As 4 a skinner program, try using Winamp Skinmaker 1.2. I forgot the web address, but u probably can find it by searchin 4 it.

I've never used the skinner programs (because I couldn't figure out how to use them. Designing the elements manually is easier for me.)
