I'm converting MP3s to WAV but I'm not getting the quality of WAV file that I want. I'd like my WAV files to be 16 bit, stereo with a sampling rate of 44 kHz. How do I set this up in WinAmp?

Kaboon 29th December 2000 21:07

Thought that Winamp allready decoded to 16 bit 44khz. But why not use a program like MPEG suite?

ESP85 30th December 2000 14:44

The decoding quality on MPEG suite is not very good. Why don't you just open the file in some program like Cool Edit or Soundforge and save it as wav. If you don't have either of those programs go to some warez site and download one of them. The cracked version of Cool Edit Pro ($300 program) is all over the place.

To answer your original question . . .
Winamp DiskWriter uses whatever format is specified in:
Multimedia Control Panel -> Audio tab
Under "Recording -> Preferred Quality" you should select "CD Quality"
Also, first make sure the EQ is off in Winamp.

Although this should now work fine, if I was to suggest any other program to use, then it would have to be the awesome freeware CDex

You could also try this plug-in, which is more configurable than Nullsoft's Disk Writer plug-in:
ACM WAV writer plug-in, by PP: http://pp666.cjb.net/misc.htm

Well, I don't know which encoder CDex uses, but it seems normal for a good encoder.
