Winamp freezing issue

I`m a first-time poster and really need some help! I use Winamp with my laptop for backing tracks and it`s worked perfectly for years but lately, the player just stops half way through a tune and emits a really loud continous high-pitched tone to where I have to turn my sound system down for fear of deafening people. After that, I can click on the play button for any track on my playlist and nothing happens, they won`t start and i have to re-boot my computer to get it to work normally but even them, it`s prone to doing it again at random intervals. My laptop works perfectly otherwise, so it seems like the player has become corrupted somehow.
Will I have to delete it and re-install? I`d appreciate any and all help/advice....thanks!
Ned

You might want to check windows event viewer. To me personally it sounds like a driver crashing, hence why you can't play it again and have to reboot your computer.

Check out the event viewer and also try reinstalling drivers.

Thanks for your response....

.....but I know absolutely nothing about computers, so I hope you`ll indulge me:I don`t know what a windows event viewer is or where to find it, and likewise, what drivers are or how to reinstall them. If you could dumb this down to absolute layman`s terns, that would great....
thanks a lot!

well, whoever made your laptop, you can go to their site, go to the support section and type in your model, and you should be able to download drivers. It's kind of hard to figure out what the issue is without seeing it, what version of winamp you're using, what plug-ins your using, and what version windows you're using.

No problem, hopefully it helps. My only other suggestion would be trying a different player and see if the problem still occurs

Make sure audio divers are up to date. Could be cpu overheating, probably not though. I would just update everything. Also maybe your cpu is maxing out at 100%?
