HOW DO I INSTALL SKINS THAT DO NOT AUTO INSTALL?????????????
|
natemic -
Close Winamp. In your Skins folder (usually C:\Program Files\Winamp\Skins), create a subfolder with the name of the skin. Then move or unzip all of the component files for that skin (BMP files, etc.) into that subfolder. Re-open Winamp and the new skin should appear in the Winamp skin browser. |
Autoinstall???!!!! I thought all you had to do was copy the .zip or .wsz file into the skins folder (usually C:\Program Files\Winamp\Skins). Winamp can read sip files - there's no need to unzip them.

In case you haven't already tried it: http://www.1001winampskins.com/ ... has a celebrity skin category. ethan_h - I offered my reply because the topic specified "Manual" installation. You can't get much more manual than what I described. Also, natemic did not mention what Winamp version was being used, and older versions do not support the WSZ installation. If a person has 50 or 100+ skins, it's probably better to keep them zipped. However, if they only have a few skins, it really doesn't matter. And if they like to tinker with some of the component files (bitmap files, pledit.txt, etc.), it might be handier to leave the skin files unzipped. |

You're a moderator - I'm not. In other words, you know a hell of a lot more about this than me. i didn't mean for my reply to be taken wrong, I was just curious as to why someone would go to the trouble of unzipping the skin files when there was no need to do this :) |

No problem. At the time, I didn't realize my reply sounded so harsh (one of those days, I guess). You are absolutely correct. 99% of the time, there is no reason not to install skins as zipped WSZ files and leave them that way. I had just got the impression (don't ask me why) that natemic was an exception, and had a special reason for wanting to install the skin(s) manually. :) |
Help w/ AutoSkin Installer (ver2.72)
Any suggests on how I can "fix" the Auto Skin Installer feature on my Win2k PC??
Is this a Win2k issue? If not, here's a more detailed description of my problem. . . When I download a skin, rather that automatically changing the currently displayed skin to the one I've just downloaded, I have to got to my C:\ (in the root directory... oddly where all the skin files have been placed when I try to activate the new skin) and install the skin by hand (by moving these files to a new folder in my skin folder). I have tried uninstalling and resinstalling. I also have tried several versions of WinAmp (that support the "Auto Skin Install" feature -- at least that work fine on my WinME PC). Thanks danablue |
Nevermind, I figured it out. NT
