Hi. Winamp 3 kicks ass, except for a major bug.

Whenever I try to open the media library or the playlist editor, WA crashes with this error:

same problem here ...

when starting up winamp3 i get 4 error messages, stating a problem in studio.exe, finding the entry point for a function in "common.dll"

after closing and ignoring the errormessages, winamp starts up and works fine.

i am running windows 2000 sp2
common.dll is part of the winamp3 distribution, not a windows/microsoft library...

any ideas how to fix the problem? maybe i just need a restart? :P

regards,
dawolf

I'm far from an expert on this situation, but..

when installing RC1, i had this same problem because i wrote over a previous beta. Obviously some files were conflicting. Try uninstalling all betas of Winamp3, and reinstall final, and see if it still happens.

thanks a lot! that worked for me!

i removed the winamp3 beta directory prior to installing wa3 final and now the common.dll errors are gone.

jeweljkms 21st August 2002 22:29

i installed no beta version

so why am i still having the problem, seems like many people are having this problem.......

especially the add song to playlist thingy when a new skin downloaded is opened, and makes the playlist feature unusable completely, no matter if i change the skin back.....i've uninstalled winamp3, and installed it again after downloading it again, and it still does the same thing.......

i believe it's the studio that crashes all the time, and sometimes it'll say common.dll, or unknown.....i have my reports on the winamp3bug reports, so check them out there if that helps any.....but my computer is running fine with any other program.....it's always up to date downloading the latest of the best.....

Pentium 2 : 300 megahertz
Ram : 320 mb sdram
platform : windows 98 first edition

windows update is up to date!

I'm having the same sort of issue.

Here's my error details:

======================================

Here's my system stats:

Pentium II 233
Asus motherboard
64MB memory
3 GB Seagate C: drive
6 GB Maxtor D: drive
Windows98
TurtleBeach Montego II PCI Sound Card
(don't scoff, it's my work computer--I wouldn't be caught dead owning such an outdated POS personally)

Here's my story:

I just rebuilt this computer from scratch. Fresh formatted C: drive, fresh formatted D: drive, on Tuesday. I installed and ran WA3 successfully on Wednesday. I added the directory on my D: drive where I saved my .mp3s in the playlist editor and played them all afternoon with no problem.

When I started my computer today and opened WA3, I noticed my settings had returned to default (Winamp Browser and Thinger were bother visible, both of which I had turned off previously) and my playlist was missing from the editor. I clicked the "Add Directory" option and pointed it to the same directory it had used successfully yesterday and got the error message above. I have restarted and still get the same error message. I have uninstalled and reinstalled WinAmp and get the same error message.

With the computer having just been rebuilt, there are no previous beta versions of WinAmp to uninstall. I admit, I'm leery of manually removing registry entries, because while I like tech toys, my knowledge doesn't go that deep. Will RegClean do the trick for this?

Similar

Same common.dll (and some new <unknown> modules), but under ME, Directx 8.1, PII 400/ 396MB, Yamaha719E (OPL3 SAX), VIA 693 Motherboard.
This eror come after i restarted the computer (after I just finish installing WA3 and WA3 update, it works fine).
It appear when I try to add files to playlist (in rest was working fine...play old lists, starts fine, etc...)
So, at next reboot I reinstall (without deleting first installation)WA3 and since then works fine.
