Just thought I'd say that you can get Winamp 3 Skins at http://www.afterdawn.com

heres an ok one: http://www.afterdawn.com/skins/specific.cfm?id=1511

It's a preview. Why do a skin? Unless you want to learn the new skinning system of course. Things might change for the final release version.

Flynnz 1st February 2001 16:25

I've already seen that skin at deskmod, and while I commend the author for creating it within 12 hours (or so I heard) of the release, it's pretty damn ugly.

(Not that I could do any better, but that's not the point.)

:D

dammit, how did my skin get up on your site. i didn't say it could be there. now i don't mind you having it up, but at least ask me first. and i didn't create it to be good looking (as you can tell), just to make a skin. i dont' knwo if i will be making any more skins since i suck at art, but i will be writing a winamp3 skinning resource which i will get up some times after i can get my hands on some more information.

BigStarPlaya 3rd February 2001 16:29

In my opinion, i like the original look, im not to in to the circles and odd shapes, they kinda remind me of sonique (which i didn't like) and iMesh. But, i just may like a few. I do think that it is a good idea for those who like it, if i was good at art, i would stick with the original look and create skins off of that.

CraigF 3rd February 2001 16:37

That skin sucks, but then it is only alpha, and as far as a skinning resource goes, I think THEMike has done a pretty damn good job of one already, considering he did the wa2 one on nsdn too, hes probably the best person for the job.

My 2 cents.

Craig, There really was no reason to say that skin sucks. even if you do clarify byu saying it's just an alpha.
Thats just rude considering that the guy above has already commented that it's just a test skin and that he wasn't that good at art.
Alot of people are making test skins right now that look like shit. Thats just the way it's going to be for a while.

CraigF 3rd February 2001 22:16

I was rushed to post that, so ill clarify here.

I do not think anyone should be releasing skins yet unless they are exceptionally good. you can clearly tell that that skin was just pushed out to claim the 'I was the first person to have a skin out for winamp3' award, kind of gripes me, it would have taken me about 5 minutes to do that skin, and i dont ever touch graphics if i cant help it.

I didnt mean the skin itself sucks, i dont expect any good skins yet until the script compiler is out, and full documentation is out, i think THEMikes documentation comes a long way in providing what people want, but that skin, and that site in general are really jumping on the 'lets put up something to get lots of hits' bandwagon.

If you dont think this to be the case, then just look at the number of sites out there putting up winamp3 stuff.

I think the best way to progress wa3 development is to centralize sources, I know other peoples views on things are a good way to make things easier for different people, but dont you think it is a bit early for that?

besides, its only my view as i stated, and before i had to drive my younger brother to work i was going to state that the author did state that the site hadnt asked permission to put it up. It was more of an attack at the site, which clearly needs to use lame tactics to get hits.

Thats all, hope this clears up my attitude, I did NOT mean to be offensive to the author, time permitted i would have explained this more thoroughly, I just dont like it when people use buz-products to gain popularity, especially when they dont offer what they claim.

NOTE: that site happens to have already created a winamp3 skin section, which at the time of my viewing contained this one skin, slightly pointless no?

Skinning Early Days

As far as I am concrened the more skins and info I can find the better. I don't care how crap the skins look as long as I can pull them apart and learn more about the format. I am currently doing an adaptation of a skins from another freeform music player to save time. I am only doing this to try to learn more about the format. So far the animations are killing me. I have read every tutorial I can find and can't work out why the hell mine don't work. I even tried to copy the seek animation from BoxOr to my skin. Copied the necessary script and images into my skin and it still doesn't work. What is going on? I have been trying different things with my volume animation for 2-3 days now and still no cigar. I'm running out of ideas.

I don't agree with this this centralized source stuff. Rephrase, I do agree, but if the more info available elsewhere the better.

Getting hits is the main goal of any website and any successful way of achieving it is good, providing you are reaching the right audience and able to provide them with something they want.

Now I'll try to think of a quote to put at the bottom.

Live each day as if it were your last and you will probably spend your whole life ill in bed.

the power for skinning in winamp will be there, but it's up to skin designers to actually make worthwhile uses of it...

too bad there isn't an ability to have alpha-layers on the skins themsevles, so that the edges are always anti-aliased and such nice little touches (like drop shadows) could be created.

you want to see what future winamp skins could look like if given the talent? click on these links :

then we could have those nice smooth edges

Someonebutnotme 4th February 2001 19:24

Wow I like that skin. it is quite nice.

What about old winamp skins ???

I spent the last hour with downloading somje great skins for winamp 2.xx, and suddanly it came through my mind that they may not be compatible with winamp 3.
I realze this is not exacctly the topic here but I would like to know if my skin "collection" will work with w3. (I guess not)

Rswave2000 5th February 2001 03:01

i like those skins can't wait til winamp 3 is finished

Neofolis 5th February 2001 18:54

Winamp 2x Skins

At the moment they are not compatible. Backwards compatibility is apparently on the agenda, but it is a long way down the line. I'm sure by the time it is implemented there will be plenty of wa3 skins that you will like.
