Stars maketh not the skin, look how much 5 star nonsense is out there, compared to how much 3 and 4 star goodness there is about.

amp i suggest that you delete your liquid paradise skin then re-submit it...now that alot of 5 star skins are going up maybe yours will achieve a higher rating

I'm guessing amp doesn't give a rat's arse about stars... nor should any of us. If reviewers don't give credit where credit's due, what's the point in worrying about what they think of our skins? Fuck 'em. :) In the nicest way possible. (No, Chevy, that does NOT mean doggy. :D)

well.. i only want a 5 star coz i kick on loads of downloads :D and it would be cool to have some recognition and stuff

Lynx, You have gotten the praise of some of the best skinners there are, Right here in this forum. There is no higher form of validation of your artwork. The masses that follow five star skins do it because it's easier then browsing thru 20,000 skins that missed the reviewers eye.
If you think downloads make your skin a five star skin, then find out whats the most popular band or whatever. Talk to tons of people the use winamp. Find out a basic demographic of them and cater to what they want. You will be about one step ahead that way. Or you could just do your skinning and find the joy and pleasure of creating something that is all yours, from the mind of the one and only LYNX.. Then no matter what you do, it will be five stars..
BTW.. like I said.. I think the creed amp is awesome..

I don't....but I might just del and resubmit...coz I can't take it that while Liquid Paradise is IMO a better skin than SnipeAmp Special Edition, it only has about fifty( :eek: ) downloads, and SnipeAmp has 570,000+

What would you do tho, if you del, resub and it still comes out with 3 stars?

ampburner, i just had to reformat my drive and lost all my skins. but in a way i'm happy coz i clicked your sig link and found Liquid Paradise. it is the nicest skin i have ever seen. it's so smouth and relaxing. when the reviews go public i think you will get teh recognition you deserve. hell, i didn't download any skins for a week so as not to spoil the new interface of my winamp.

I definitely know how that goes.

There is no general correlation to how skins are getting reviewed at the minute, you either strike lucky or you don't. It dosn't matter how many hours you put in, how many original ideas you have or how good you think your skin is.

For example, and I know this will stick with a few people, but hang with me while I explain this from my perspective...

Y'all rember my "back to the wall skin", you should I shouted about it often enuff :D, anyhow I know pic skins don't cut it around here, but I like doing them so shoot me.

Anyhoooooow my point, BTTW was I considered to be probably my finest skin, groovy custom cursors, inovative ideas on the EQ, lots of effects on the play list , lots of hard work into getting it to how I wanted it, all in all very pleased with it. Where does it come out on Winamp review scale ? 3 stars, average rating and a couple of 1000 downloads to it's name.

Now look at another skin of mine, yes another Jeri skin, this time Silver Jeri Ryan. This was something I threw together over a couple of days at xmas, nothing particulary special about it, below average cursors, nothing fancy going on in the image, crappy EQ that I put on cos couldnt think of anything else to do, most boring playlist in the world, not something I would consider to be my best work. How does it fare in winamp?, hmmmm gets 4 stars, and about 30,000 downloads in a week or so.

So tell me is anybody acctually reviewing skins at present or is it just random chance what you get rated at. If there are people sitting down looking at these things, then they are looking at them the wrong way, could it be that reviews are being done from the screen caps alone? I recall a time when ideas were picked up by the reviews and commented on, as in "nice cursors" "i love the way your playlist does this" etc etc, you don't tend to see that these days other than maybe a passing comment about how the colour looks or how the overall design looks.

I have sort of a related question - I just submitted my first skin, and while I'm okay with the three stars I got, Im curious why the sample image is screwed up? Its a very clean skin - much nicer that the image given here.

Yes, yes it is.

You should feel lucky, a lot of the caps I got for my skins have been really, really bad.

They automatically compress the image some, to save space.
Sucks. But what are ya gonna do?
