Hi,

Read this post: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=42814 - it's quite funny.

Anyway, it gave me an idea. What about a Share The Skin Love Winamp Skins CD-Rom. I figure 650 mb on a cd and an average skin is 250 bytes. I figure that 2,600 skins!

The best part is: NULLSOFT sold out to AOL. Sure we can persuade CO or somebody to sneak into AOL and nick all those 750 free hours CDs that mysteriously turn up everywhere. Sure we could nick enough to burn our favourites skins on and then we could put little labels on saying " FREE WINAMP SKINS. 2600 FREE SKINS. " and throw them of some tall building.

And we could include OUR favourites to counter the CO/NULLSOFT skin rating conspiracy.

skinme!

skinme! 24th February 2001 21:18

Sorry guys - I've read too many of those " 100000000001 things to do with FREE AOL CDs"

And I'm high.

On Skin Loving.

skinme!

BullGawD 24th February 2001 21:31

hehe, that is pretty funny. Seems like it would be more worth our while though just to set up alternate skin site...wait a minute - a skin site admined and rated by forum skinners. hmmmm.

Riksruin 25th February 2001 08:46

a skin site with just skin love forum members skins would be really kool

am i a regular?

ampburner 25th February 2001 18:30

you kidding me? 300+ post qualifies as "regular" to in my book ;)

pixelpusher 25th February 2001 19:07

How about this instead. A site or part of someones site with skins from all the folks here at skin love. But with no ratings/no comments.

Just a header at the top of the main page that said.

"Welcome to the winamp.com.skinlove.forum skin pages"
On these pages you will find the best and worst from
the experienced and new skinner alike. They are works
of art that have no rating. Which is why they come from
Skin love.
Please feel free to download all the skins you like
and appreciate the art and work of the others.
Blah Blah Blah.. Copyright notice..

Thank you from the Skin Lovin Peeps..

flatmatt 25th February 2001 21:22

No skinner skins. Hey, we could use Blorpscript somehow maybe. And have it organized by author and category (both). Like the old Lame Ads. Or not. I love Lame Ads, though! Even better - like the NEW Lame Ads! (What script thingy does that use? I forgot.)

Riksruin 25th February 2001 21:47

pixelpusher that is actually a really good idea that u have there!!!!

pixelpusher 25th February 2001 22:19

Ya think, Rikki.
I'd be willing to help build the site and upload skins if other want to venture into this. It would be a good place to send newbies looking for skins.. LOL They have all our skins..LOL Hey but they would have the best.
I have a homestead site that I havn't used yet from address.com, as a matter of fact the username is skinreviews.

Anybody else think this is a good idea.

Riksruin 26th February 2001 09:51

how about if a couple of use webmaster it???

maybe me and u pixelpusher?

cappy17 26th February 2001 16:05

So who will be allowed to post there?

Members and above, no newbies? After you make member, you can post old skins? What about forum regulars who may not frequent Skin Love?

Just some things you need to hammer out.

BullGawD 26th February 2001 16:33

Just a suggestion

If you're set on doing it Skin Lover style, then I wouldn't take anyone who wasn't at least at member status. I mean, its not that hard to get, I was a member within a week. That'd resolve a few of those conflicts.

Bilabong 26th February 2001 17:14

Me me me me me me!!!!

Please could I please help in some way please please please!!! Maybe I could be allowed to post my skins (when I get really good at it)

Bilabong 26th February 2001 17:17

Just an idea, i'm not trying to butt in or nothing!

I know I am no good at site design, but maybe we, sorry, you lot, could get a bit of winamp, and persuade them to let you rate skins, or host a skin site there, and it would save them a job. Hmmmmmmmmm!

i think just skin love members not newbies

pixelpusher 27th February 2001 01:26

Yeah I think only people who are skin love forum active members. Meaning that you should be participating in discussions in this particular forum. Thus the name of the site/pages should be called the
Winamp.com
Skin love forum skins page

or whatever, It's a place for us here. Someplace that goes with the skin love philosophy of art as opposed to rating.

Which is why I have come up with the idea of having a link on the front page that says, Download of the week. With no picture. Each week a different skin from the archive. Doesn't matter what skin it is. Every skin will be download of the week. You would have a list of skins and just keep rotating though them. If we get alot of skins we could rotate them more often.

Anyway, Do most people here want to have there skins on a site like this. I han't heard from some. I would like to know whos interested in it and if everyone thinks it's a good idea. Rikki and I could do most of the work, with some help from Bill or whoever wants to help.

afro moe 27th February 2001 01:55

my opinion

i think this is a really good idea... not only will we be showcasing our Skin Lovin' art, but we won't have to worry about what CO thinks of our skins (although it looks like CO has been at a loss of words lately).

pixelpusher 27th February 2001 03:03

Hey Moe, Wondering where you been lately.

Duk 27th February 2001 03:14

Not sure, but isn't Jayn's site already kinda like what you all are describing?

xapec 27th February 2001 05:36

this is my first visit to the skin love section......

Bilabong 27th February 2001 06:41

Cooooooooooooooooooolllllllllllllllllll!

Spoonman 27th February 2001 12:41

I think it may be difficult to draw a line at who is active and who is not active. Some of us are nearly religious in our reading of the forum, but are largely lurkers when it comes to posting.

Then there are such things as editorial filtering. Should it occur? If so, at what level? Will certain skins be rejected from the site? Will some comments, if there are comments, be censored (for language, content, whatever)?

But the general concept is good.

Define offensive?

Whats offensive to you may not be to others, personally I find the great number of brushed metal type skins out there offensive, but it wouldn't stop me displaying them.

One mans pleasure is another mans poison

Back to the day job :)

Riksruin 27th February 2001 14:06

stuff like bad language, porn, that sorta thing,

Spoonman 27th February 2001 14:56

It's a very fine line you're walking, Rikki. Just look at the latest art flaps in the news. In New York, there's controversy over an interpretation of The Last Supper wherein Jesus is depicted as a nude woman. Coincidentally, the other flap is in Chicago, again over The Last Supper. This time it's called The Last Pancake Supper and features breakfast food characters like Tony the Tiger, the Quaker Oats Quaker and Aunt Jemima, with Mrs. Butterworth as Jesus.

Who's to say which of these, if any, is offensive?

My point in asking is that we had better lay out some very clear lines of demarcation about what is unacceptable.

And a good point it is.

Some one has to take editorial responsibility. Then they must state those editorial lines up front. There's nothing wrong with an abritrary line being drawn, because all such decisions are abritrary. But all the players ned to know the rules.

First, decide who you want to visit the site. Do we want only Adult Check members? Or kids hoping to be inspired and learn the art of skinning? That's the porn decision.

Then you've got to deal with politics...

A-hem. That would leave your always diligent Captain out of the battle!

Surely you don't mean to exclude the veritable helmsman of this galleon we call the Skin Love Forum?

:D

Now, I haven't seen anything in a Duk skin I couldn't see on broadcast television. I don't think you fall in the "porn" category. Cheesecake comes to mind, though. :D

Now, if only you could clean up your language...

Riksruin 27th February 2001 17:45

well the sort of stuff that we post in here is acceptable and considering its only us who's making the skins there isnt really a big problem is it?

pixelpusher 27th February 2001 18:26

Well,

Sorry, I don't think there's enough positive feedback coming in, So i'm bailing on this project. If Jayn already accepts skins from the members here then Thats good enough for me.

Sorry Rikki...
