Hi..
I am using Winamp 2.72

I just noticed a weird problem today..
each time i load a subdir or drive in the playlist editor.
all the files in that subdir or drive are doubled up..
Resulting in huge files. That is really annoying..

Any solution short of going back to an older version..

PS: i just returned to "W98" from "ME"
And Winamp did'nt have that problem with "ME"

Thanks for your help.

John

Do you mean that they are all listed twice or that they are doubled in size?
eg. Is every entry listed in the playlist twice, or does a 4 minute track show up as 8 minutes / a 5MB mp3 show as 10MB? (you tell us exactly. . .)

If it's the double listing problem, then check to make sure that you don't have two different input plugins installed that handle MP3 files (eg. MAD or MPEG123, plus the default in_mp3.dll)
If you previously installed an alternative plugin, each time you upgrade Winamp, the (new) default plugin gets restored, so you'll have to disable one of them for the problem to go away (by renaming one, eg. in_mp3.dll.off)
Close Winamp & go take a look in the Winamp\Plugins dir.

If it's the latter problem, then I haven't got a clue . . . unless (again) you're not using the default input plugin, or maybe you're using some dodgy General Purpose plugin/s.

make sure that there isn't any playlist file (m3u/pls) in the same directory as the mp3s, in this case winamp loads the playlist (which contains links to the mp3s) AND the mp3s

DJEgg: you don't have to rename in_mp3.dll, you can disable it in the preferences (by removing the associations), winamp keeps this setting after an upgrade

loading a subdir in the playlist double up the files

Thanks DJEgg...

Removing the plugin solved the problem

This one of the problem with Winamp it never aknowledges
any changes so it is hard sometimes to know what is actually
in use or not..
Apart from that i wouldn't trade it for anything else.
And i tried them all.. :-)

Cheers..
John
