When I pop in a CD to play, just as it starts playing, the "CDDB" box pops up for a split second, then my computer reboots... I'm running Win2000Pro, and it only happens when I play a CD with Winamp... Any help?? Thanks!

Does it still reboot when you disable the cddb tool?
(Prefs -> Input -> CD Plugin -> config -> uncheck "Use CDDB") Although, this certainly isn't supposed to be happening. It sounds similar to the old Win98SE reboot bug. Have you installed the Win2k SP1 patch yet? Have you checked for any viruses / run Scandisk recently? What version of Winamp do you have? |
Disabled
OKay, I disabled the CDDB, and now it works fine... I have the latest version of Winamp (2.72, I think? I just d/led it a few days ago, and I have the SP1 patch installed.. Oh well, no CDDB, but at least I can play CDs now... Thanks, DJEgg...

Hmm . . . strange!
It sounds like there could be a problem with your connection config somewhere. Do you connect via LAN / modem / DSL / other? Are you using a proxy server or behind a firewall? Maybe the Admin setup has blocked the cddb server port? And never eliminate the possibility of a Win2k bug, or a system resident evil virus! Just a few pointers for you to investigate . . . though I can't tell you what's actually causing the problem . . . I'm afraid that's something you're gonna have to suss out for yourself! :( Can you stream files over the internet okay with Winamp? (eg. shoutcast.com radio stations, etc) Anyway, you can always enter the CDDB info manually, for now. Use the "File Info" tool in the Playlist Editor, once the AudioCD playlist has loaded. |
