It still doesn't come close to the radium (Fraunhaufer Professional) hacked codec in terms of quality. It's fast though.

is that something to be proud of then s1138? :)

...
That's just plain bullshit. I'm a musician + an audiophile myself. I can easily hear that radium produces a much crisper sound (closer to the original) and with a lot more dynamic.
That guy doesn't know what he's talking about. LAME is not far behind and even produces better MP3's in certain conditions (yea I've been forced to use LAME) when there are a lot of high frequencies in the music. Fraunhofer did the first codec so their algoritm is exact, LAME is just a damn good copy. |
...
I also notice that guy only listen to techno and stuff, LOL how the hell can he compare sound quality with that music!?
He also says CD's have better dynamics than LP's, bullshit again. |
OzzyFreak,
http://fastforward.iwarp.com/ http://fastforward.iwarp.com/outofphase.html The codec has a bug in it. It's old, and will never ever be updated again and is way too slow. Fraunhofer now has stopped distribution of this acm codec for good. I believe the reason is all the software piracy that went on with this codec. All other Fraunhofer encoders (MP3Enc 3.1, FastEnc in Musicmatch 5/6, Cool Edit's Mp3 plugin, Soundforge 4/5 Mp3 plugin) have some kind of bug/bugs. http://fastforward.iwarp.com/dropouts.html http://fastforward.iwarp.com/clicking.html http://fastforward.iwarp.com/alternbug.html http://fastforward.iwarp.com/fastenc.html http://fastforward.iwarp.com/notrecomm.html |
In addition,
where the hell did you read in r3mix's site that CDs are better than LPs? if it's in the myths sections, read it carefully =P He was referring to DYNAMIC RANGE, not frequencies. http://www.passlabs.com/reviews/aonostph.htm http://www.mp3handbook.com/11.htm |
Now LP's really do sound crappy. Just listen to them. They can't really be compared to cd's. Not clear enough, too much noise and scratch them and you've had it.
The comment on this in the myth section at r3mix is something I actually agree with on that site. |
could someone explain to me why lp's are said to have better sound then a cd? what about lp's compared to dvd audio? or do they just meen lp's to digital in general?
|
LPs are said to be better because:
1) it is analog 2) it has higher frequencies recorded (this is why it makes it so good, you don't hear it, but you feel the crispness and richness of the music) (if you listen to a cd and a vinyl record, same album of course, and good equipment that does not make it crackle and shit, you will hear something missing from the cd, which the vinyl has) 3) that's it [Edited by Somebody on 03-28-2001 at 06:48 PM] |
Referring to FhG/Radium:
The codec has a bug in it. It's old, and will never ever be updated again and is way too slow. Fraunhofer now has stopped distribution of this acm codec for good. I believe the reason is all the software piracy that went on with this codec. All other Fraunhofer encoders (MP3Enc 3.1, FastEnc in Musicmatch 5/6, Cool Edit's Mp3 plugin, Soundforge 4/5 Mp3 plugin) have some kind of bug/bugs One can still buy the FhG ACM codec from Opticom as Producer Pro, although it is not updated. To be fair to this codec, it sounds good to me the vast majority of the time [I would use it at 192 stereo mode, for example], and it doesn't reside on my list of non-recommended mp3 codecs. Still, my current favorite encoder/setting is: Lame 3.88b -h --abr 192 ff123 http://fastforward.iwarp.com |
I noticed in the new version of CDex, LAME is up to 3.89 Alpha 1. Joy.
|
swell !!
