I have a "Cambridge soundworks desktop theater 5.1" audio system with 5 speakers and a woofer(or how's it called :-x)
and a stupid "Allegro" soundcard wich I will soon change.

My problem is: With winamp I can only hear the sound coming from 2 of the 5 speakers while I should hear 4 of them(this only happens when I play songs from cd and not from the hard drive). Everything works great with windows cd player, so I assume it's something due to winamp plug-ins.

I am confused because there are so many options....
Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Use the Cd-reader plug-in.

Odd.
Uninstall Cd-reader and use DirectSound as your output plug-in.

tabsuqare 10th April 2001 14:31

ehm, I searched over the plug-ins section but I couldn't be able to find it. url?

Thanks

Twilightseer 10th April 2001 14:32

It's bundled with Winamp :)

tabsuqare 10th April 2001 14:50

ee......

ehm, what do I have to do to use it? If it's with winamp already, isn't it installed and working?

Sorry for boring, but even If I use winamp since a long time, I never managed with plugins.

Twilightseer 10th April 2001 14:52

Preferences>Plug-ins>Output>Highlight DirectSound

tabsuqare 10th April 2001 14:59

still I can only hear only 2 of the speakers

Twilightseer 10th April 2001 15:03

When you installed the Cd-Reader plug-in, did you rename the original in_cdda.dll ?

tabsuqare 10th April 2001 15:11

yes, I renamed the in_cdda.dll so to don't make winamp use it, as told on the readme file. Then, to uninstall cd reader when you told me to, I just renamed it to the original and deleted the cdreader dll.

Twilightseer 10th April 2001 15:17

This is odd.
Go to the Plug-ins window, select Direct sound and hit Configure. Under directSound Output device, select what best describes your sound system.

tabsuqare 10th April 2001 15:33

no chance. I think I tried that too before. Anyway I tried again and it didn't work.

I was wondering, Isn't there some other good plugin for this kind of things? The cdreader worked only one time with all the 4 speakers and then it started giving me that MMSYSTEM032 error. MAybe some other plugin

Twilightseer 10th April 2001 15:38

It may be a soundcard problem. Try updgrading your soundcard drivers with the latest version.

tabsuqare 10th April 2001 15:44

well, it works with windows cd player and also the soundcard is practically new and the drivers too, so...I think the problem only comes from winamp. I have the sure feeling it is some option or plugin to setup.

tabsuqare 10th April 2001 15:48

damn, I got it to work from all the 4 speakers now. I used directsound and cdreader together, but the sound jumps now.
I think I read I have to lower the buffer. How do I do that?

Twilightseer 10th April 2001 15:50

I think that you need to increase the buffer, not lower it ! :)
Preferences>Plug-ins>Input>Cd-Reader>Configure>Highlight your drive>Configure>Tweak the buffer.

tabsuqare 10th April 2001 15:57

eh eh right!
FINALLY....I say....FINALLY: It works!

Thanks a lot for the help twi.
Hope I 'll have the opprtunity to help you back someday(hardly for winamp I think).

bye
