When using the Minibrowser, and I click on any link on a web page that opens a new window (usually through the use of Javascript), the new window is displayed in Internet Explorer, instead of opening a new Minibrowser window. (I have both IE and Netscape installed). This will also happen if any link is right-clicked and the "Open in New Window" option selected. Is there any way to configure the WinAmp MiniBrowser to open a new window of its own, instead of launching Internet Explorer?

MiniBrowser IS IE, you cannot spawn multiple instances of the MB.

That raises an interesting question... isn't Netscape bothered by Winamp which they include in their installation, since Winamp uses IE for browsing? lol

Thanks, sawg, that's interesting information. My next question then becomes, does the Minibrowser function on PCs that have not had IE installed? Does WinAmp install a core module of IE?

Winamp uses the core files form IE (mshtml.dll and others). On a computer with no IE installed (Win98 lite) and you try to open the minibrowser, it (in a techinal sence) eats shit. If you just have the basics form IE removed, but the core dlls still remain, it shoudn't be much of a problem

The reason I'm researching this is I'm looking for an alternate method of using Live365's Playlist Window for Netscape users. The Playlist Window doesn't update properly in Netscape, but does in IE.

There are lots of older PCs out there that do not have IE installed at all, and many people just don't have the room or want to install it. I thought maybe WinAmp's Minibrowser could be used as an easy alternative, but it sounds like the Minibrowser won't work without IE. I'll have one of my non-IE listeners test it out to be sure. In the meantime, I'll keep looking for other alternatives.

I just wish Live365 (who says it's Netscapes problem) and/or Netscape (who won't reply to my support requests on this issue) could get the problem ironed out.

Geez. I've been looking for this topic since although I do have IE (hard to get rid of it in WinXP) I don't use it for reasons, that should be obvious even to Winamp programmers - the security. Since I stopped using IE, I don't have to run spyware detection programs every day - just about once a month to confirm I was right ;-)

However Winamp keeps invoking an IE window all the time, but that's, obviously, blocked by the firewall, so I'd like to configure Winamp to use Netscape or whatever is set as the DEFAULT browser instead - which is quite a usual feature in most software that requires the use of a browser.

So is there a way or is it completely hopeles?

No. As it says above, the browser IS IE; therefore, it'd launch another instance of IE if called upon.

Unfortunately it is hopeless.
However you can prevent media from invoking the MB...
In Winamp
1. Ctrl+P (for preferences)
2. General Preferences
3. Media Library
4. Library Options tab
5. checkmark 'Do not allow media to automatically switch to "Now Playing"'
