I had it happen before that a few MP3s on my archieved CDs have an incorrect bit (bad disk, bad recorder, dunno), so it would be great if WinAmp would evaluate the CRC implemented in the frame header (created using lame's "-p"-option) to compensate for those errors.
Unfortunatelly I couldn't find any information on the WinAmp homepage whether the CRC is actually used in the decoding prozess. Thx for any (usefull) feedback The Dude |
The new decoders (found in Winamp 2.666 and up) by default do not use CRCs. During testing it was found that some encoders calculated the CRCs wrong and used a 0 for every frame. The decoder was setup to ignore CRCs equal to 0 so the file wouldn't play. They put an option in to turn that feature on/off you can find it by doing the following:
Open Winamp Press Ctrl + P Click on "Input" Click on "Nullsoft MPEG Decoder" Press "Configure" Click the "Decoder" tab Look under "Misc Options" on the lower right. Tom - Tech support? What am I doing in here? I think I am lost. |
CRC
Thanks, Tom, I must have been blind!
