And with my 500th post comes....
MICRONAMP Z v0.6 MD MicronAmp Z is back and it's badder than before. Completely redesigned with a new smooth contoured surface, featuring several modes including Shade and Micro, and a new tiny download size (171 K)! This is not your father's MicronAmp. Download: http://www.deskmod.com/index.php?download=19918 Please Comment: http://www.deskmod.com/index.php?page=show&skinid=19918 Screenshot: http://www2.deskmod.com/temp/uploads/19918.gif What's New: Known Bugs == o None What's New == o Everything! o In particular, check out the new Micro layout (hit the M button). You can have more than just norm and shade. o The skin is very small, but borrows some images from the default skin - you must have the Default installed. Comments and Bugs: Here, as usual. Cheers - RT |
With 500 posts you think you'd know better than to crosspost....
|
With 1500 posts you think you'd know that none of the skin love people ever read the WA3 forum :p
|
I didn't find any bugs, technically, but there's one feature that WA2.x had that I haven't seen in any of the WA3 skins (including this one), except mine. That feature is the displaying of the db level when the EQ bands or preamp are manipulated (like the volume does). The default skin doesn't even have it. It is, however, possible to accomplish using the scripts. I bring it up here because Micron Amp Z is so small that I think such a display would really help.
In general, the skin controls (apart from the cbuttons) are somewhat difficult to use precisely because everything is small. This is, however, a matter of personal preference and not really a failing in the skin. Just what is that 'C' thing above the menu button on the thinger? It looks like it ought to do something, but doesn't. Why are the next and previous buttons brighter than the rest? I think we've all become used to the play button being highlighted, but not those two. None of these are show-stoppers, however. The skin is very functional, the graphics are tight and slick, and the Micro mode is very handy for people who put Winamp on the left edge of the screen (not me though, I'm an upper-right person). Good job. |

Rhino, 1 thing
can you make it so that it remembers the position of micro and the full view? so that i can have micro in the top right then when i go full it automatically goes back to full over on the left? Thanks, Jon |
One more thing, but this isn't exclusive to Micron Amp Z either. Does anyone else get a problem wherein the components are "too big"? Meaning that a chunk of it, always the right and/or bottom portions, is flat out not there, but the bounding box for resizing shows it's there?
Every single skin behaves this way for me, including my own and the Default skin, just to varying degrees that I believe is based on the size of the component background image. I bring it up here because all I get on the components in Micron Amp Z is a rectangle approximately 48x48 pixels, so I can't really see anything. OS-specific problem? I'm on NT 4 here at work. I'll have to try it at home to see if it happens on 95. Anyone else care to try it and confirm? Elsewhere, the pop-up menus, while somewhat in keeping with the rest of the skin, are unexciting IMHO, but I bet you're already working on that :). |
Rhino... grrrrreat update man! it makes the orignal look like shit! :D
good work |

Spoonman, I've never had this component size problem you're mentioning. It may be NT specific. The menus look like bad '70s wallpaper, I'm fixing that. As for the EQ displaying DB, if I can steal your code then I'll put it in MAZ ;) The C is supposed to be a continuation of the gridwork from the player. Whoops, my bad on the nex/fwd buttons. And the size, well... if you're great than 800x600 I guess it'll be a bit too small, but oh well. My next skin is bigger. bluekey, i don't think it's possible to set layout positions with either script or xml - just a quirk of WA3 at this point. But I'll look into it. Thanks all. |
RhinoTrip does it again!
Sorry for being so brief, but I agree with all of you. Way better than the first one. Mine is coming soon! |

I'm eagerly waiting for alpha7 ... altho now with the amount of skins you have out it must get hard for you each time a new alpha comes out you've gotta redo all your skins... which by now is a pretty big amount.
Man, by the picture it looks as if you're almost done... wow. |
wow... RhinoTrip, I can't wait... kinda looks like boxor :D
Keep it comin'! -- Jarsonic |
RT how dare you make such good skins. You should be punished. No, congratulated. Congratulations!
|
WOW, Rhino.
Your shit gets better all the time. And your next skin looks to blow it all away(almost had an orgasm first time I saw it, kind of like the first time I saw the preview for FF: The Spirts Within). Any how, keep up the good work! |
Hey Rhino, that's a great skin !!!!!!!!!
|
Pretty nice skin rhino, not my favorite colors but its cool how you have the parts all together on one piece.

Cool skin (the "porthole" one) RT! Yes, I see you borrowed some elements from Kjofol, plus the volume knob from Stone Cruiser. As I used to say when I lived in Southern California, Van Nuys (or "very nice" in normal speak).
Elsewhere, that "too big components" problem I have is exclusive to NT. |
I think compact is great and whats up next
looks AMAZING! |
So
I'd like a bit of help here - the question is whether you prefer the golden color above or the silvery look here:
http://www.nh.ultranet.com/~airjan/FlyTrapSilver.jpg Or something else? Darker, lighter, blue? Let me know, I can easily change the color. And yes, the thinger and EQ do both show up in the same place. You can switch which one is displayed ;) (I haven't switched the button background colors to silver yet) |
i like the silver
I like the silver version best! maybe even a bit brighter?
|
I prefer the golden one!
The switching thinger and EQ sounds like a very good idea. |
i prefer the golden, perhaps varnished wood style. (would make a great componant class)
|
Took the words right out of my mouth, willfisher. Wood would look great, but between the two choices, I too prefer the gold.
The question is, what kind of look are you going for? Keep it smooth if you want mechanized, but otherwise wood, stone, etc. will work well. You could even make it look like something from the Myst series of games (Myst, Riven, Exile) from Cyan, which is a subject I've been thinking about for a WA3 skin. The skin already reminds me of something from Riven. |
I like the silver better, but since some people like the gold maybe you should make two editions.
|
Pretty cool stuff you got going :) Both the silver and gold are nice actually. I agree, you should just release two versions.

Changed around the volume so it's more like boxOr now. Works surprisingly well, although I realized I didn't like the map boxOr was using. We'll see about the seekbar, hoping A7 will be out soon so I can use regions properly. |
This may or may not be related to the topic at all, but, RhinoTrip, the 'Winamp 3 Skins' link in your sig goes to a site that I assume is yours. And on this lovely, well-designed site, there's a link to download Winamp 3 Alpha 6. The picture associated with it is of Winamp 3. However, and here's the long awaited point of my post, the version of Winamp depicted there is not Alpha 6. The Equalizer controls are not present in it. I don't know if you're aware of it or not or if you even care, just thought I'd let you know.
|
Silver is good, especially if you add some texture to it.
Jon |
Why would anyone care??????
|
Rhino, this skin RULEZ !!! :D
keep it up! |

just a thought...
since I know nothing of scripting, maybe this is impossible, but here goes. The idea came from when i was sketching for auriga. make everything in layers and alpha blending (I'm talkin textures and everything), so you get down to one single color that you can put in a color value instead of a png. then have a script change the color! then people can match the skin to whatever color they are using for the rest of their desktop. i was hoping to make something like that for the yellow parts in auriga, but I have enough problems with the XML so I'm not even gonna look at the scripting part ;-)
Like i said, I don't even know if it's possible, but it would be a cool feature, no? :) have a little option window with 3 sliders, RGB... if it doesn't work, maybe you can make a script to just toggle gold/silver png's, so you get them both in the same skin... |
You can use the Gamma and Color Controls component to change the color of the entire skin. Just load up the thinger and click the GC icon.
As far as specifying the exact color for specific pieces of the skin - I'd like this too, I threw it into my big wishlist for WA3 in the future - http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=49499 |
Yeah, WindowBlinds allows you to modify the color of parts of a skin, and it's a feature I use a lot. It would be great to see this in WA3.
