Why does the winamp family include skins made by programs (such as skinner and the like)- they are boring, useless, and a real pain in the ass to have to shuffle through to get to real skins- i understand some can be accepted, but most just have a picture slapped behind them and are usually rated a 1/2 or one star; please tell me why they are even allowed on this site, come on people speak up about this, if we wanted those kinds of skins we would go to some other loser site, can we please use some discretion in choosing what stays and what doesn't.

PLEASE VOTE HERE IF YOU DO NO WANT THESE KINDS OF SKINS AT WINAMP.COM

Skinning has become achievable by way too many people who should leave it to the real artisans. Sure, I can finger paint, but you don't see me trying to sell Picasso fakes in an art gallery. If you can't skin creatively, leave it alone. Find something you do well and use your skills there.

In other words, skinning programs are merely excuses to let the truly blind create what they would deem art.

Sound good?

I agree 100%!

These skins that are nothing more than a picture plastered on it, are an eyesore. I think anyone who uses a skinner is cheating. I create all of my skins on Paint Shop Pro (currently 7.0), one pixel at a time. If I wanted to plaster a picture on a skin, which I do not, I would do it the hard way. Unlike some people, I create skins for the challenge of it. Not for the right to say...

A couple of sites that weed out crappy "photo skins" and other skins made by throwing images into a skinning program:

http://www.deskmod.com

http://www.deviantart.com

These are the two best sites IMHO. There are others out there.

(Heh. Good one griffinn. You should submit it. There's a reviewer here who would probably give it 3 or 4 stars). ;)

gee wa3 has freeform skinning,
i bet alot of those skinners will either quite, or get alot better:D

Huehuetenango 22nd May 2001 20:48

i've seen a couple of skins where a pic. has been put in, i assume w/ a skinning program, and they have been done quite well, but that is only rarely
and the one skin i did, i made by myself using adobe photoshop

but on the whole, most of the the skinning program pic skins are bad
and grifffin,
well timed commentary

I agree. Mostly, people who use skinners make terrible skins. Of course, I don't have the talent to draw anything so I just make templates to use on my WinAmp Skin Maker. Although the author quit updating it ages ago, fortunately for me the last update he did allows you to use truecolour templates without losing the ability to have shading of the background image.

As a skinner who uses Skin Makers, I can say that they allow those of us who aren't gods at using Photoshop et al to customize our favourite program just a little bit more.

If you don't like it, fuck off.

I tried to follow your courageous example of building a skin one pixel at a time, but I get exhausted after one pixel. So here's a screenshot of my skin...

I see where ur comin from, but wut really pisses me off is when people use some cheap ass skinner.exe, and then just submit as is without any real work. Then, they get praised by some jackass "reviewer"(for a lack of a better term), and by public reviewers who r too afraid to speak the truth. For some reason, some people think if the skin has a good review then its automatically a work of art, which is a load of shit. Another thing is that those kinda skins r clogging up winamp.com and greatly slowing down the reviews. Now reviewers dont even give a comment in an effort to try and get through a buttload of crappy skins. Its really disheartening to the true skinners.

i understand that these programs give many people who are artistically challenged a way to personalize their own skins; but that doesn't necessarily mean that the rest of us need to see your vision of winamp.

The whole point of skinning programs is so someone who has no talent in skinning can skin- these are not skins of any merit, they are nor art, they are not wanted, they are only for personal use.

Perhaps I have a few suggestions that will aid in the problem of these bothersome skins- instead of posting these skins along with every other skin; why not create a new and seperate category just for these types of skins (perhaps then we will see how many people really download them).

Or better yet get rid of them altogether; and in their place offer a few skinning programs for download so that people can feel free to customize winamp without sharing their personal vision with the rest of us.

Thanks to all the REAL skinners for providing us with a wide variety of artful eye candy- keep up the good work.

PLEASE KEEP VOTING
LETS GET RID OF THESE THINGS

Exactly! Even I, The Gigabyte, realize that I suck at skinning, so I just get up and say, "Fuck that!", and walk off.
