I don't know...
Everyone here seems to "love" skinner.exe skins...
And again, I just looked at the newest skins and most of them are made with a skinning program...no personal touch or anything... :(
What I like of making skins is the possibility to be creative, to play a bit with winamp...you know what I talking about :)
I know, I know, most of the people using these programs are supposed to be newbies...I don't know. My first skin is 100% hand-made with PSP...
Skinner.exe skins or worse: skinamp.exe skins are just so UGLY
(What's wrong with me?)

Mr_Tough_Guy 26th May 2001 21:56

I agree, the first couple of skins I made were 100% done in photoshop, I have to admit, I currently do use skinmaker, but just to help out, I only use it as a basis to create a skin. I think most of the people on these board agree with you though.

Nini 26th May 2001 22:07

My latest skins are also made with the help of this tools (though I prefer Trans Skin - it supports individual file safe and the MB, own masks...) because they save a lot of time&cut the image without pixel errors...but I would be ashamed to submit a 100% program-generated skin :D (Many people are not, it seems)
I just can't understand it...I can't have fun with such a skin...do you?

ampburner 26th May 2001 22:55

I use skinner.exe as a tool too, just to cut up the bitmaps etc. It can be very usefull...if used properly. Cos slapping a pic onto the main with skinner.exe has nothing to do with skinning. Like I said, just a tool. The real work's gotta be done by hand (And don't you even think about taking THAT outta context :p LOL )

Namelessv1 26th May 2001 23:22

My earlier skins were made by a skinner.exe, but of course I edited the bitmaps afterwards. Wut really pisses me off is when a skin straight outta a skinner.exe (without absolutely no editing) gets treated like its a work of art. I find it much more satisfying to do the work without a skinning program.

couldn't resist :p

chiquita chad 27th May 2001 00:51

LOL :D

Assja 27th May 2001 01:10

My first was a 100% PSP to, but then I found out how easy it was to make skins with QuickSkin:D (please slaughter it with reviews!)
Um, seriously, I use the skin "Designme" (I think it was on 1001winampskins) as a template. Never used a skinner until that Winona thingie.

ampburner 27th May 2001 01:13

LOL

heheh too bad you can't edit my posts too Dawg :p

Nini 27th May 2001 17:12

hehe! so you're all true skinning lovers! :D cool :D
:D :D :D
This skin would be really good, if there was some additional work:

<Tori rulz!!>
:D

ampburner 27th May 2001 17:53

are you serious? It's jsut a bitmap run through skinner.exe, and the background picture placement isn't even good...

Nini 27th May 2001 17:58

I mean that it would be fine if the skinner would have used PSP or photoshop additionally ... but the image is beautiful
- this skin could have been so nice ... there's a lot that could be done
:p

Mr Jones 27th May 2001 18:01

Nini,

Do us a favour and fix your sig link, it's really bugging me seeing that square with the red X in it all the time, find somewhere that allows image linking, cos geoshitties, don't :)

Nini 27th May 2001 18:05

I'm really really really sorry...it's just that I already had a yahoo=geocities account and I used it ... I'll go to the Netherlands for 5 days now, when I come back I'll move to another place with my sig...please be patient a little while
:) :) :)
(I din't know it... but geocities is really crap ::sigh::)

ampburner 27th May 2001 18:06

I disagree. Even if it would have been more customized wtih PS or PSP, I don't think the skin is very suitable for making a skin out of it. Like Zeruel would say : 'bad image placement'

[quote]I'll go to the Netherlands for 5 days...

well I'd have to say...welcome Nini :D On what occasion are you visiting?

Nini 27th May 2001 18:07

Well you don't like it, OK
I love the image
;)

The Only Lynx 27th May 2001 18:17

yeah :D
But i'm not sure:do I have the right to change sknner-skins for myself?

Riksruin 2nd June 2001 11:06

i think that if the author of the skin is happy with the skin that they have made then it does not matter what the skin looks like or how they have made it

Nini 2nd June 2001 19:25

of course. But I can't be happy with a skinner skin.
(Don't wonder about bad ratings)

Riksruin 3rd June 2001 00:12

just forget that skinner skins are there!! hehe! i dont tend to download that many skins now anyways. and when i do they are skins from the guys in these here forums!!

NeoRenegade 3rd June 2001 07:38

I personally like AjieG's skinner. I have almost no artistic skill so I just make templates and apply them to images to make skins.

beastie boys bow wow 4th June 2001 18:09

all i have is photo deluxe and MS paint, and even though i use photo deluxe more now, MS paint is still my favorite. i can hardly make a skin that I like because I like a LOT of 3 dimenchonal stuff, but i can't make any (well, i'm starting to get the hang of it a little, but i'm still bad at it)

will learn 4th June 2001 18:38

i use photodeluxe 2.0 and ms paint for most of the skin and i use skinamp for puting on my background textures, and colours of the writing, viscolour etc no point in doing it any other way!!!!!!!!

my first skin should be out in abouts 3 weeks.
its looking to be about a 3 1/2 stara.:)

How's about a sneak peak, screen shot?, work in progress download link????

Back to the day job :)

Nini 5th June 2001 12:34

I don't even have MSPaint installed, and I use quickskin rather than skinamp for vis & cutting, etc, because skinamp often streches the background...
But I discoverded this little 'helpers' only 3 skins ago and I don't think they're too good.

will learn 5th June 2001 13:26

i would but i was up till 3am'ish and in a tired dumb ass zombie state i kinda saved EQmain over my main so i gotas start my main all over again

sorry

hmmm, I agree - in quite a lot tool skins is a little masterpiece waiting to be discovered ... so why not make a contest ;-) ? everyone takes a tool-made skin of her/his choice and posts the link here so that all contestors can see it - and then reworks it and let's say after a week we come up with the new version of the selected skin.

:-)

simon snowflake 6th June 2001 18:50

I never used a skinning tool. I tried a regiongenerator once, but i could not make it work.
Seems for me there is this little rule:
the easyer it's made for me the more difficulty i have with it
lol :D

Easy is often good as well :), or at least I've found in life as well :)

cyana 6th June 2001 23:00

yup - I never have used a skinning tool ;-)
so the idea was to take a submitted 'skinning tool' skin from whom you feel that it could be improved significantly (like nini pointed out : http://www.winamp.com/skins/detail.j...onentId=31153)
and go ahead and improve it and show the result ...

Nini 8th June 2001 06:34

that's a nice idea. :)
But I'm not really sure if the original skinner would be pleased...(everyone is proud of her/his skins)

Mr. Bojanglez 8th June 2001 06:47

hmmm

maybe winamp should send all the skins that came directly out of a skinning program to the minor leagues, or the other skin sites that have not as high quality skins. My example is http://www.themesunlimited.com.

Maybe then this discussion would be over.

BTW am i the only USA person around here?

Winamp can't reject skins, only because of low quality,it is still the official site. they can't do that.

why?

cyana 8th June 2001 13:07

sure that we would have to ask the submittor first
or do not submit the skin in public ...

will learn 8th June 2001 15:45

back i was kicked from the forums for a little bit still don't know why

i have been working 24/7 on my skin (100% MS Paint and it still looks better then most skinner.exe skins)

i have done 2 very similar main skins and would like to put up a image i have done that contains pics of both of them,
but my modem drivers arn't working all to well makeing my net to dodge to upload on to a web site, so would someone please post the image if i send it to them .

thanx

PS don't worry i will use photodeluxe to try and texture it:)

Greedmonkey 8th June 2001 16:16

yep

I'll post it for you, just send it on over, hit that email button below

Kris

Mr. Bojanglez 8th June 2001 16:29

hMMM

NiNi I was just asking a question about the USA thing.

Winamp could take a winamp skinning site and designate it a minor leagues official winamp skin site, then they could send all of the skisn there. I'm sure that site would get a lot of attention. Yes winamp can't just reject skins, but if they didn't have to sort through the hundreds of skin program only skins they would have less work to do.

Whats up with tripod? Would they let me put a bmp screenshot on here? They block gifs, jpg, and pngs.

will learn 8th June 2001 16:40

thanx

how am i ment to send you the pic through this winamp e-mail thing

and i thing my pic is in .jpg what format am i ment to have it in???

i have to learn how to make textures (or just were i can download them from eheeh).

hey would anyone know how i can change my name to
cinical king
