I use WinAmp to convert MP3s to wav files so I can burn CDs to play on my CD player. Some of the songs seem to convert ok, but when I try to burn them onto the CD, I get a message that they are in the wrong format -- that they must be 16bit stereo with a 44.1 rate (or words to that effect -- I can't remember them exactly) What am I doing wrong and how can I get them to convert to the right format. My CD burner is an HP 9300 series, if that helps. Oh, I'm not extremely computer literate, so step-by-step instructions, (including where to find stuff) would be helpful.
Thanks

what are the properties of the mp3s whose resulting wav files give errors? Is there anything different about them?

One thing I would try is first, check your CD burner software. If it's Adaptec 3.0 or greater, or Nero 4.0 or greater, then you don't need to convert to wav. You can load the mp3s directly into the burning software and create an audio CD.

Second, if you do have to convert to wav, try using CDex to do this instead.

Don't know that there's anything different. They are alljust files I got from Napster.

I'll have to look through the documentation I got with the CD burner -- or is there somewhere on my computer where this should be listed? (I told you I was illiterate) A friend got the CD burner and installed it for me and gave me some very basic instructions, so I'm kinda learning as I go. I've asked my daughter to ask her friends who burn CDs for help, but she keeps "forgetting". I've also tried to download CDEX thru realplayer, but I keep gettin a message that my modem is not connected to the internet, then when I try to connect I am told that the port is already open. Frustrating!

Anyway, thanks for trying to help.

Click here to go to the CDEX homepage. I never trust realplayer - I use GetRight to download everything.

Nero - Burning ROM should be able to burn pretty much any MP3 to CD without requiring you to convert them to WAv first. Unfortunately it isn't freeware.
