I'm not sure what happened, but all of my mp3 files suddenly disappeared and converted into sonique files (?) --well, at least that's what type of file its listed under now. =( Since Napster had been giving me such a hard time finding songs, I decided to try out another program called AudioGalaxy. It seemed to have been doing great, but the day after I downloaded that program, this happened to me and I'm very distressed about this entire situation. I hope that you can help me! I'd like to listen to my music again!! =(

Un-associate the files with Sonique. Goto "Setup options" => "File types" uncheck MP3 (and everything else you not want to have associated by Sonique)
Then run Winamp goto the "preferences" (CRTL + P) => "File Types" and select all the files that you want to have associated by Winamp. To prevent this "stealing" you can always run the Winamp Agent goto the "preferences" (CRTL + P) => "Agent" just check the box "enable Winamp Agent" & "maintain file associations" |
Uninstall Sonique. It's a piece of crap anyway.
And while you're at it, bring it to the attention of the people in the forums at http://www.sonique.com/ Tell them they need to make their software a little less intrusive ;) |
Thanks for your responses! =) Well, I tried doing what you told me to do, but it didn't work out as well as I had hoped. Although I had previously downloaded Sonique onto my harddrive, I deleted the program a long time ago. I tried finding all Sonique-related files on my computer but it turned up with nothing, so I couldn't de-select mp3 from Sonique. Hmmm, so now I'm lost again and my songs are still missing. =\

My files are working again!! =) I decided to completely re-download Sonique and then went ahead with your instructions and deleted the stupid program. I re-downloaded winamp as well just to make sure everything was fresh and now things are normal!! Thank you so much for replying so quickly and for your help!! =)

Eh?
Did you do as kaboon said? Open Winamp Goto: Winamp Prefs (Ctrl+P) -> FileTypes Checkmark "Register Files on Winamp start" From the list, select: MP3 (and any others of your choice, eg. PLS, M3U) This will make Winamp the default player. All files associated with Winamp will bear the description of "Winamp Media Files", but the extension/format always remains the same, eg. MP3, WAV, MID, etc. (the option to enable Winamp Agent, as explained by kaboon above, is up to you) Okay everything & close & reopen Winamp (for the changes to take effect) Now goto Windows search (Start -> Find -> Files & Folders) Search your C: drive (or all Hard Disk Drives) for all files called: *.MP3 To add all the results to your Winamp playlist: Ctrl+A (select all) File menu -> Enqueue in Winamp Or if you only want to add some, rt click them -> Enqueue, or drag & drop them into Winamp's playlist window. Save the list using the "List -> Save List" button. Repeat as necessary! And remember where your mp3's & playlist files are in future! ;) |
