someone clue me in on how to put transperancy into a picture made from scratch on adobe?

New -> Select "Transparent background"

Where ever you want a transparent part, leave the background blank (so that you can see the checkerboard)
Then, when you are saving it, set the color mode to indexed color (assuming you are using 5.x), then save.

If you are using 6.x, just "Save for Web", and it will automatically do it.

Of course, I'm assuming you are referring to transparent gif backgrounds.

I'll tell you now before you get disappointed, it won't turn out too great, because the edges are anti-aliased. It'll look chunky, especially on dark backgrounds.
