Wow Joe, this skin looks cool actually.
Do you know the movie final destination, This would be a great theme skin. It looks so cool.
The only thing you've to add in the main window is a partial transparent skull. :D

garetjax 25th June 2001 07:41

LMAO...

Well, needless to say simon I've found my faith again in my own ability. I was lost for awhile and thought to reinvest my resources into thinking outside of my norm. So, in so doing I awoke to designing everyday over and over again until my mind was black...Quite literally I had about 45 designs that were trashed before I was completely exhausted of my blissful ignorance. Then, slowly methodically my mind began to shape something else not quite like the box confines that I had before. With tedium and patience I found what I had been looking for...That drive that moves us all to make these.

:D:D:D

I'm very happy with the results and am continuing on both of the 'dev' skins...I hope that I will have the ingenuity left to actually complete them.

Quote:

...we all fall short of our own expectations until we actually try to exceed them!
I am truly appreciative of your comments...

Thank You,

Simon

p.s. Note I will likely only post here when I get closer to completing both mains (my wa2 skin and my wa3 skin)

(Note: My offer is geniune to Ampburner...LOL)

I'm finding great pleasure in just making them now...LMAO

When i started typing the reply I made, you hadn't edited your post yet. But wow that would be a awsome WA3 skin. If I see that, I wan't to start skinning Winamp 3.x myself. But I don't know anything about scripting and such. Is there a manual some where to download about scripting. And what proggie do you use to script? (notepad?)

And did i mention that your wa3 skin looks awsome?
welcome back garet.

garetjax 25th June 2001 09:11

Thanks Mate...

I use a Glorified Notepad...

But, basically WA3 works via a region.txt that is named xml. heh...(short explanation)

Here i will give you a basic overview...

Rename default.wal file to default.zip
Extract to default folder
Open the folder
Open the XML Folder
Edit player-normal.xml (Write / Notepad)
Look through the list
here is a sample
Quote:

<button
id="Previous"
action="PREV"
x="12" y="85"
image="player.button.previous"
downImage="player.button.previous.pressed"
tooltip="Previous"
/>
Note: Action="PREV" will equal the previous action (this is how it is triggered for you). x="Horizontal Location" y="vertical Location" downimage="the downpressed image" tooltip="the scrolling tip".

Now, its a glorified Region.Txt: In that it maps an image to a specific spot on the area of the background. Each image is layered upwards from the background (player).

Scripting can be done yes...via going for web javascripts and putting them in the script library folder for each skin. And then using xml to render/execute the desired effect. Its not all that hard really, but no reason to have a script execute to do some pretty swank shite...(heh).

:D

Its really not that difficult

simon snowflake 25th June 2001 09:46

I guess to only way to figure it out is by looking at other skins and trying things. But i'ts a big step to start skinning/designing WA3 and it would make the WA2 skin like the Mikro is now, an extra.
but then again. How can you make a WA2 out of a WA3, they are just to diffrent.

Just one little bit more. What are the odds that WA3 will change radical and needs other way's to create them? (more easy or harder?)

ampburner 25th June 2001 12:34

Thanks but no, thanks Joe :) I might be low on inspiration, but I prefer building my own skins from scratch...otherwise it just wouldn't feel right...but thanks for the offer :D:D:D:D LOL!

wonderful - both your prototypes and that you are back :)

ampburner 25th June 2001 13:14

Why the hell did I not comment on those screencaps...?

Ok....first one...I don't really like that much... the color scheme doesn't feel right, and it looks a little blurry...These second one however looks GREAT!

beautifull lines, great shading...it looks very dynamic and userfriendly so far. I'd have to warn you though, because winamp3 transparencies still have troubles with curves...you'll get those same 'jaggy edges'as in wa2x

Doggy Dog 25th June 2001 16:10

Great skins!!!!!!
Of course I want both of them :D

the only little bit i don't like about the wa2.x skin are those cog-wheels. otherwhise it looks superb.

flatmatt 25th June 2001 18:19

In the first one, the rough background doesn't really go with the smooth foreground. The second one's pretty cool.

this one looks like a gui @ guistuff.com
http://www.guistuff.com/guispecs.shtml?0208
[click it and you see the player rotated and with 2 cirkles less...

garetjax, are you Jonathon Sampson?

garetjax 25th June 2001 19:08

Lynx

Good Eye...I used the base layer from a gui that I had found over there.

However, I am chaning most of the appearance (color tone and edges as such). But, you are completly correct this was a base gui from guistuff...I found the site remarkable as far as gui's go and thought to make a skin from one of the interfaces...(interesting idea.) the extra's that will be included in this design will be apparent when I actually finish my work on it.

Not always does inspiration have to be your own...It can be the dog next door or a site you find on google.com

LMAO...

oh...and disagree with my methods of starting this skin...go ahead...heh.

Simon...

WA3 can support bmp's in its base so basically you could turn a WA2 Skin into a WA3 Skin (fairly easy) For example you could give it the image from cbuttons.bmp and map out the location.
Quote:

<button
id="Previous"
action="PREV"
x="12" y="85"
image="player.button.previous"
downImage="player.button.previous.pressed"

Change these in the player-elements.xml
Quote:

<bitmap id="player.button.previous" file="player/player-buttons.png" x="0" y="0" h="20" w="23"/>
<bitmap id="player.button.previous.pressed" file="player/player-buttons.png" x="0" y="20" h="20" w="23"/>
To:
Quote:

<bitmap id="player.button.previous" file="player/cbuttons.bmp" x="0" y="0" h="20" w="23"/>
<bitmap id="player.button.previous.pressed" file="player/cbuttons.bmp" x="0" y="20" h="20" w="23"/>

Actually I do...not that you care :D It's just that what I've seen so far, 't has nothing to do with inspiration yet. You just copied it :rolleyes: oh well

The Only Lynx 25th June 2001 19:24

i never said i dissaprooved.. was just curious if you created them... and i would have dissagreed if i saw the readme.txt in the end and never saw some credits for the guy ;-) but that a long way to go...

it was just a thing that caught my eye

I've got no problem with the method, but I'm rather irritated that you proclaimed your newfound 'inspiration', didn't cite the source, and then seem offended at Lynx for bringing it up. You've done nothing to the base image except rotate it 90 ccw and lay half transparent arrows over it.

What's really starting to piss me off however is this 'poor, wronged, everybody-hates-me Garetjax' attitude that's been going on for three threads or so. Unless I've missed something, you've had a few unfortunate misunderstandings, and undeserved ratings. Any else not have these things happen to them? :rolleyes: C'mon man, brush it off and get back in the game. :D

simon snowflake 25th June 2001 19:31

oops

simon snowflake 25th June 2001 19:37

what version of WA3 do i need?
(a link would be nice)

btw, i've got 3.666

ampburner 25th June 2001 19:39

BG took the words right out of my mouth.

garetjax 25th June 2001 23:59

ehh...

Whatever...man...I have.

Simon I am using WA3 Alpha 6 But, I would gather you should get the latest version that I am unaware of for a link. And guys...Lets not turn this into a pissing contest, no I wasn't mad or holding contempt towards lynx.

BTW: I'm fresh out of piss...heh

Your points are as always taken into mind...I use whatever I can for Inspiration...Claims on art set aside...I never said it was mine...but, I am making a skin from this design. Which by no event means that it will leave it as I found it...As I usually do I will change alot of the base to fit my own needs. I'm not displaying an attitude...and BullGawd...Personally, you have no reason to be so offended or think otherwise of myself the threads are opt-in opt-out. You make the choice to hear my bitches or otherwise, should you find that my method of communication undesirable well kewl at least you are listening and that means that you have experienced a similar injustice. Whether or not I am qualified to say I deserve it or not isn't a case I'm trying to make nor one I have tried to make. I just stated factual information from my own perspective.

Thanks Guys...

I am Updating and changing the graphical Rep. BTW: I still that Lynx you have a good eye...(no confrontation asserted).

:D:D:D

ampburner 26th June 2001 00:17

Garet... don't push it....please

garetjax 26th June 2001 02:23

as I see...it ampy

I did have not pushed anything...???

Someone thought I was being rude I said I wasn't. Explained myself as best as I could and yet, still you seem to think of me as the aggressor. As always is the case...If this were about skin love why is it that we collectively have to defend ourselves? Is it because, I leave open some kind of door so that you can? Poor little me...ahh yes...perhaps, that is the gist of what I am saying in here...or does it have to do with genuinely answering the questions or statements that were presented to me. Just because, you cannot take things literally from everyone in the forums...does not mean that you should judge each accordingly. Yeah, I have bitched and moaned...big deal who hasn't. I get upset just as easily as anyone concerning anything that I do that is for reasons noted in other places...remarked upon in a obtuse or negative way.

Now, back to the origination of the thread...
The 1st skin with the Cogs is a in work skin that I am making for WA2 (complete design and such by me)...The cogs are not something I will likely use as they interfere with the rest of it as noted above.

The WA3 Proposal is just a beginning of something...As noted above it is a gui from guistuff.com and as such it isn't quite fit to do what I need but, with modifications and some additions/subtractions it will be.

As noted above the base is a starting point from which i had used this basic gui to begin some work on...to inspire me.

I do have a question for Ampy & BullGawd why is it that no matter what is done that this place cannot be viewed as the skin love forum if all that is done is affronting other individuals? Or trying to twist or inject some hidding meaning into a textual reply? I only say this because, I believe that this should be about skins and the love of designing them...and in cases not withstanding the element of that love being trounced upon by cases noted in other threads. If indeed this is the attitude that you and others really want then why try to complicate or create instances of situations where they are not addressed directly to you?

For example:

If I say Ampburner: This skin kicks...but, not my style.

Why does BullGawd: Reply in kind with something about my style that makes me feel as though my work is useless? And before you say that isn't done...I use the above as the evidence for it. Ampburner, I love what you do and was only joking about taking them...It was just a friendly poke in the arm to get you to come over...and talk.... :D And my reply to lynx was in the same good natured and overall humorous reply however, BullGawd make the association of me trouncing him or his reply to me. ???

Why do you continue this action? Why do you want to? Do people like me offend ya? (I think I have often asked this question?) Push what???

What was I pushing to begin with Amp???

What proverbial button did I hit upon this time? And I thought I was the touchy one here?

LMAO
(PS. I know you are goign to reply with something but, BullGawd....Its just an observation not a rule.)

To answer your question...Um, why should I have to put something down giving credit when as I said this is inspiration? In Looking at a fine piece of artwork and using it to make another does that qualify you as doing something wrong by not accrediting the originator?

I start with a base that I like and move onward to completion...Manipulating and changes what I need to in order to make my skin much in the same manner as one would if they were making a pic skin. I don't see those guys attributed ****, NFL, NBA, Porsche, Ferrari etc etc...

:D

Do you see me 'afronting' other indiviuals? do you see me flaming MJ, BullGawd, keetah...lynx, Duk....or anyone else? Because I don't. Did it occur to you that I may actually disagree to you? You know, not everyone is out to 'get' you garet. When I make remarks about your work, I do so because that is my OPINION. Not because I need an excuse to offend you. Don't try to make me look like the only thing I do is offend people and try to make trouble. You couldn't be more far from the truth. :rolleyes:

I could not agree more. When I disagree with you, that does not mean I HATE you. When I have critiscism, that does not mean I want to offend you.....etc.etc....get the Idea?

Maybe part of the problem is that you tend to take things too personal. :rolleyes:

If you get a sec, and you can synchronise your clock to Paris time I wouldn't mind 5 minutes of your time to discuss something, heh, don't panic, just looking for your advice and guidance on something.

Ummm ICQ?, ummmm cant think for the life of me what my number is, is your on your profile?, I'll go check, or maybe you can mail me :)

Look forward to hearing from you :)

Hey, AMP...No Problem...

:D

I meant confront I think...heh
And I am not trying to make anyone appear as though that is all they do...( :) ) I'm just trying to say that it does happen to all of us. Even I do it...I do not think you all are all to get me...I have no reason to feel that way. I don't even feel hurt when critism is passed my way. I do however, believe that we all fall into confrontational stances when something about one of our fellow mates here is seemingly given a bit of grief...even if its actually just a misunderstanding.

:D
Quote:

I do not think I brought the attitude spoken of by BullGawd into this forum but, if I did I'm sorry I have done so...A bit of my problems and feelings do come across in my responses. BullGawd...You are somewhat right, but that doesn't mean you are totally right. Without saying to much I have received alot more than a few. With the popularity of a skin comes many a more email that for me when they were negative were destructive to my system.
Please, don't take the above negatively...I was trying to explain myself....

garetjax 27th June 2001 03:07

Updates...

As you can see above both have been modified quite a bit from their original placement...The WA2 is nearing that part of the cycle where I begin EQ and PL Editing.

The WA3 Skin has been resized to about 1/2 of what you see here...and the left area has a volume slider (blue curve) presently I am working on a script to have a slide movement...should prove interesting...(heh)

The Only Lynx 27th June 2001 06:45

how did you make the lightning???

garetjax 27th June 2001 07:49

its not so hard...heh

Do a new layer (Black)...and then Filter Render Difference clouds...

Then Image Adjust levels and move the sliders towards each other...

(To change color image hue/sat)...

:D
:D

Easy as pie...

(btw: the vis area will be extended downward to complete the effect of stone to be used on the eq)..

(filter render diff clouds, filter noise Add noise, Filter wind, image hue/sat (for the color))

garetjax 28th June 2001 04:00

Here is where I stand on my WA2 Skin.

http://www15.brinkster.com/garetjax/shweetupd.png

Notice the difference and the cracked metal...I guess I'm going for something sort of metallic and electric, like a bomb or a device with wiring showing etc, and lights...

:: LOL ::

garetjax 28th June 2001 07:12

heh, nobody listens...(LOL)

Anyway...here is yet another update...

2:08AM - Bottom Button Row is complete CButton to Cred.

Description:
The Round Right 3 Buttons Turn off and on...
The Eject button currently is just a webdign (up)
The cbutton Row Flip inwards and the gradient reverses
EQ and PL Buttons (not shown) are round disks (tiny) that depress and leave hollow circle when on.
Textured Number row and song description area is complete.
Working on PosBar / Volume / Balance now...
(i have no idea where to go with those)
:)

morning...heh

as you probably have notice 90% of my thread replies are always 12:00AM - 4:00AM (heh) My time that is...LOL

& yes, I am still working on this bugger just finished the volume...I did something interesting with the crack in the metal (made it expand to the right to be the volume...lol only problem is its linear...(pouts) wanted to have a crazy looking up down back crack??? dat don't sound right for some reason) Oh well, I kept on it and am moving now to the balance bar...

The is just a flexing of my recent teachings...heh
(btw: my current count on layers for this are 98)

yeah its pretty worthless...Don't even know why I bother other than for some reason people get pretty pissy sometimes...(ehh screw em) no balance...Jones? Wanna lookie the Zip???

Its only the main...

I have to do something with the eq button...

:) (and I am avoiding the mono/ster) its kinda useless since you generally know when they are stereo and not???

Music doesn't go back and forth between speakers versus it does...(lol)

[added]
(so you can smack me around for how ridiculous this skin is[/added]

The Only Lynx 28th June 2001 08:36

thats starting to look cool, but where is the eject? i cant seem to discover it :(

keep up the work

garetjax 28th June 2001 08:39

hahaha

To be honest I didn't include it in that ss...(I was busy creating them)...

That was what photoshop spit out...so, the ss wasn't working at the time...but, I'm way past that now...however, the eject button is a tiny little fragment of its neighboring buttons...So, I'm trying to come up with a design for it that will stay in style...yet, remain seperate.

garetjax 28th June 2001 08:52

Here is a quick zip if you want to take a more in depth look at the skin...

Try it on for size so to speak...

I just made the eject...but, I'm not sure I made a good choice...(LOL) You'll see when you get it...Rubber + Metal bad!

LOL
