cheap advertisement enclosed ;)
hey everyone... i've been working on a skin site... the site wil feature a bulletin board, maybe chat, an uploaded skin section, bookmark section, FAQ's, tutorials, etc etc etc down to the nitty gritty: 1). i wanna know everyones opinion about the site idea, and if i should finish making it. 2). i need some help making it. anyone who has written or is willing to write a tutorial is needed. someone who knows how to install YaBB, and some moral support would be nice. note: i wouldnt post this here considering its cheap advertisement but since my site deals with skins and i wanted you guys/gals to be a part of it, i decided to tell yall |
SkinSite...
I am all for another skin site...but, currently I think that some kind of collaborative work would probaly open the door for everyone. But, that is my take on it. As for help on HTML/DHTML/ASP/DATABASE Etc...Just ask...I will answer.
ICQ#5093815 MSN:Fusion_Box@hotmail.com :):D But, Monkey man...without a link I can't even make an educated guess... (LOL) |
keetah, your sig can give ppl wrong thoughts.. hehehehe
just thought to say that site is cool idea.. |
will there be public review system??? hehehehe :p
|
Sounds like an idea to me! :D
Another skin site to submit to. |
i was gonna go with a Yahoo group but realized that it sucked badly so i decided to make an entire site. The skins will be arranged randomly.
anyone know how to make (or where to find) a download counter? anywho... heres the URL to the yahoo group which sucks... http://groups.yahoo.com/group/chiquitachad |
Keeta...
I have a thought why not make the site look like Photoshop (heh)...Tabs etc...
If you want I made an example of the idea...I don't think I will paste it in here as the mock-up I made is @ 800x600. If you'd like I can email it to ya to take a look (by the way I'm good at cutting up stuff and presenting them in layers on a webpage...(wink)). I also, have a site (30MB ASP Support) That I could use...but, your call because, this is your baby. (or link them together.) :) I dunno... heh (60 MB Makes for more presence than 30 Yes?) but, the problem would be in the look & feel. If we were to move them towards each other they would have to be similar in nature. |
don't get me wrong, I think your intentions are great, and your idea is nice, but I have already found a bulletin board to talk about skins with great people. And for a selection of non-crap, quality skins I go to 1001...
just my .02 :) |
Amen to that brother...
Good Sentiment...
I think the idea is to put a collection of skins and stuff on a very nice site that is similar in nature to something like What our forums here represent not take away the aspect of the forums...But, I could be wrong...Its happened alot of times before... (looking at tea+amaretto mix: G U L P) |
Nah man...vodka! straight up!
|
...I'm sorry...
Man, I have not ever experienced someone else actually on the forums at the same time as me before...I'm truly laughing my ass off...and Absolut is ok but, still my concoction is kicking me in the ass so, I'm enjoying.
:D:D:D p.s. windowshades suck! |
why not make a site with only skin love skins?

garetjax: the photoshop idea sounds great... my email is sherm_13@hotmail.com linking the two sites together sounds like a good idea... basically you're the technical guy who knows what he's doing and im just the person who gets the project in the ari :D just go with what you think is best |
cool keetah
if you need any help.. i would gladly be part of this projext ;) |
I'm interested. Any help or errands.... you know where I am. :D
|
for all those who have asked to help... here's some jobs that i would love to have you take part on...
one person sign up for each of the tutorials and everyone can submit a logo if they so choose... if no one accepts these tasks, i will complete them... and if you send me something ill give you credit on the site... my email is sherm_13@hotmail.com |
If you wish, I could begin to prepare a FAQ for you. I may take longer than I usually would since I have two pieces of coursework to finish this week. If there is a deadline please tell me.
|
i wouldnt include 2k1 in the title
make it a timeless page, not only for one year |
Lynx - considered it... and agreed... new name is "SkinLovin"
skinme! - any help would be great. There is no deadline but i dont wanna have to keep the website down for 2 months waiting for a FAQ or something. Here's the URL to winamp's FAQ... its a good outline to get you started: http://www.winamp.com/nsdn/winamp2x/dev/skins/faq.jhtml just dont copy it word for word |
lol :D I've just about finished my latest skinning project so most of my free time can be spent on this now. I won't copy the Winamp FAQ word for word. Don't worry. I know the sort of questions I'm going to have to answer:
What's a .wsz file? How do I make one? How many files do I need to make? etc. |
also answer:
what does wsz stand for? does it affect file size? how to install a wsz? |

Hi keetah,
Here's a short blurb on how to get the skins in the order you want them. Use it if you like. Move all the skins to a temp directory (any one will do). Get them all in the *.wsz format. Start Winamp after you take the skins out of the default directory. It will start with the base skin. I think this might clear some registry or something. And then, starting with the skin you want to be listed first, click on them and they will be installed again in the default directory in the order you want them. After that you can delete the ones in the temp directory. |
Oh and don't forget the most often asked question of them all.....
"HOW DO I MAEK A SKINE" you could add "muthafu*a" or "gaywad" on the end for extra newbie style effect :D |
will there also be a HowDoIMakeAFiveStarSkinNooneWillBitchAtAndThatWillHaveAZillionDownloadsAtLeast - FAQ ???? ;)

At least the question is answered :D :D :D
|
If no one's taking any of the FAQ's yet, I'll do AVS.
[edit] Oh, wait, just realized, you want one tutorial for all bmp's? Uhhhh, I don't think I can do that. Maybe just assign people to parts of it? [/edit] |
flatmatt... i just need someone to make a tutorial for the AVS, MB, Mikroamp, and DFX. I'm doing the rest of them.
if you want you can do AVS and AVS only... you can consider it off the to-do list ;) |
I could offer to make a template skin if you want :)
there are template skins available here but they are not really useful |
that would be so helpful cyana... please do
|
Okay, I already made a template AVS.bmp to match the diagram I made. Cyana, could you use this for the AVS?
|
Ok :) - got the AVS.bmp and will use it
<uhm> just seen it - there is one problem that you cannot see the smallest unit of pattern repetition - when you resize the AVS, MB or PL not the full size of the horizontal and vertical bars is taken but only a fraction of it, and I would like to make this smallest unit visible so you can adjust your pattern to it :) |
Here ya go...(you still need to make some modifications etc.)
SkinLove Site
Basically, a dup of the site you liked (its front page anyways) There is a javascript function for GettingClientDateTime...and few other things. Let me know what you want...Colors, etc...and I will do or you can. :D |

AVS doesn't tile. |
<blushing> you're right flattmatt - it does not tile at all
I should use it more often I guess :D |
Everybody say: STRETCH!
|
garetjax - looks amazing... just what i had in mind :D
i won't stop you now. I love the colors, keep going with what you think is best. |
How's it sound?
AVS.bmp
By flatmatt The Advanced Visualization Studio, or AVS, is Winamp's default visualization plug-in. The skinning of this component differs greatly from that of other components. Open it by double-clicking the main window visualization area or selecting "Visualization" from the Plug-ins section of the Winamp Preferences, then starting the "Advanced Visualization Studio." From left to right and top to bottom, the areas of the AVS skin are the top left corner, top center panel, top right corner, left panel, right panel, bottom left corner, bottom center panel, and bottom right panel. These are displayed in the diagram at the left. If you put a title in your window, you will probably want to locate it in the top left corner. The close button is located in the upper right corner as indicated. You should keep a few things in mind when skinning the AVS. First, the top, bottom, and side panels do not tile as they do in the Playlist and Minibrowser. Instead, they are stretched. Be sure to test their appearance by stretching your AVS window to many sizes, large and small. Also, unlike all other windows, the AVS titlebar has no selected state, and the close button in the AVS window has no depressed state. Finally, to reload the AVS skin, you must close and reopen the AVS window. ------------ How's it sound? Need anything else explained? |
