Popping/crackling Win2000
Yes, I've read all the threads about win2k popping/crackling issue and no, none of the solution worked...what can be happening...? ( hope they gonna fix this in 2.80 and/or service pack 3...)
|
do you have all the latest drivers? is your processor speedy enough?
and most important: are you sure that the file isn't just poorly encoded? |
everything is in order...
latest driver installed (aureal 2, 5.12), 800mhz, and ALL my files act like this...

Crackling Window 2K
I had the cracklin problem. Turned out to be related to my PCMCIA card. With the Xircom RBEM56G-100 in, I get cracks, pops and skips. Without it....it workey fine. A different make of card works fine.
Now I have another problem....I seem to be getting a CD skip-like sound which I believe is the Wave channel starving...any suggestions here? Brock |
errrrrr......
do you guys even read what we write...."Yes, I've read all the threads about win2k popping/crackling issue and no, none of the solution worked..." ....
I think i'll change my soundcard...easier this way. |
Yes, I read everything! Didn't give us much to go on did you?
Full system specs? Does the problem only occur with Winamp, or all players? Is it only when you try to play certain compressed formats? (eg. MP3) (I know you said "all my files act like this", but are they all MP3's, or a mix of .MP3, .WAV, .MID, .MOD, .WMA, etc?) Aureal soundcard? Aureal went out of business and got bought by CreativeLabs. Aureal usually refers to the soundchip. What is the proper make & model of the card? I think the only actual cards Aureal ever made were Vortex1/2 and Advantage? More info: http://www.windrivers.com/script/info.asp?id=896 http://www.windrivers.com/company/aureal/index.htm http://www.windrivers.com/company/au...vers/index.htm If it is just an onboard soundchip, then yes, that'll be your problem. Though old cards can also cause problems when trying to process compressed formats, due to lack of internal memory or outdated drivers. The "Problems with WDM drivers" section of Useful Links also includes some useful info, assuming you're using WDM based drivers, or are they VxD based? Everything we know about this phenomenum can be accessed via ^those^ links, but more than likely it'll be the crappy soundcard + drivers to blame. Besides, I posted those links for brock's benefit. He asked for suggestions/tips regarding skipping problems, so I kindly obliged :) Anyway, have a nice day . . . and good luck! Egg -> over & out. |
sorry...
yeah..i know i was harsh.. :)
anyways...i got a xitel platinum card ( the one with the toslink output ) and I'll go check for the section about the wdm drivers you refered to..thanks for your help :) namaste nicolas |

I'm running under win2k, p3 800, 512M of ram and i've encountered an audio problem with realplayer too, where the sounds just cuts out after 15-20 seconds of playing...And looks like wav just play fine with winamp..must be that compressed files problem thats occuring
