WA3-skin

should I jump in to the deep and try to make this sketch a WA3-skin?

http://smoothgraphi.homestead.com/files/tmp/Image2.jpg

dekt 21st August 2001 18:46

Is it meant to look like something or is it just totally made up?

simon snowflake 21st August 2001 18:50

totally made up. But the sliders (the long and short vertical things on each side) are going to be tubes with liquid in them. one volume slider and one posbar.

ElChevelle 21st August 2001 18:52

DO IT!
Nice sketch, btw. Great originality/creativity:)

What dork(s) would give it a no vote. Like it means harm to them:p

simon snowflake 21st August 2001 18:58

I only don't like the fact that I'll have to learn the scripting part.

Spoonman 21st August 2001 20:12

Go for it! As far as the scripting, RhinoTrip's site has everything you need for simple vertical progress and volume bars. But I shudder to think what the file sizes are going to be for those bars if you do them as animations.

simon snowflake 21st August 2001 20:25

I don't care for filesize :D not since i stopped using a 56k modem and got myself cable.

dekt 21st August 2001 21:16

Not to rain on your parade, but...

Excuse my dorkiness but I knew I'd seen a similar idea before and here it is...
http://www.btinternet.com/~derek.york/AudionLiquid.jpg
The above is an Audion skin (or 'face') called 'Liquid' for the Mac MP3 player. By all means have a go at doing your idea if you want to (it'll be original for WA3 from what I've seen). But that's why i voted 'no' before, it's a good idea but IMHO it's been done pretty well already.

simon snowflake 21st August 2001 21:28

it doesn't even get close to that design. And I never seen that one before.

ElChevelle 21st August 2001 21:53

I see very little similarity.
Go for it, Simon. Everyone thought the Wright Brothers had "hit the pipe" too many times too:D

simon snowflake 21st August 2001 22:27

as for the idea. It's supposed to be all copper like. Like ancient things. Frankenstein, DR jekel & MR hide. that sorta thing.

Lucid DM 21st August 2001 23:21

How about this for the bars (to save on file size). You can do transparent things on top of eachother in WA3 can't you?
http://www.mear.fsnet.co.uk/Barglass.gif
You do something like this for the glass(?). Then just have a single colour (therefore small filesize) animation for the liquid. You wouldn't need to shade the liquid that wayhttp://www.mear.fsnet.co.uk/grinblue.gif.

ElChevelle 21st August 2001 23:31

Nice, very lucid like:D

Mr. Bojanglez 21st August 2001 23:36

grrrr

simon needs to make snoflake amp,

So do a lot of people It amazes me how many blue skin's I've seen come down the review chute over the last couple of weeks, blue is for sure the summer 2001 colour of choice, wonder why I did red then???

Well, MR J. thats not very hard to expain. You where bound to make a red skin, because you are the incarnation of Satan, while the other people are inspired by the sunny-blue-sky. :D:p

or by an titanium/bue sky heheheh

Lucid DM 22nd August 2001 11:50

Simon, what 3D prog have you got? Does it not anti-alias or did you just turn it off for a quick pic?

simon snowflake 22nd August 2001 13:22

It's just shaded in AutoCAD 2002. It's only colors, no materials, no special lights, no real rendering.
Some of the display styles in ACAD i use:
http://smoothgraphi.homestead.com/files/pictures/aa.jpg
  • 2D wireframe
  • flat shaded
  • gouraud shaded
  • rendered
But the real rendering must be done in 3Dstudio MAX or VIZ. (and it will be)

Lucid DM 22nd August 2001 19:04

What, do you have 3D Studio Max? Cool.

The Only Lynx 22nd August 2001 19:22

i have ti too coz of my study.. [architecture]

but i quited that but still have the proggies..

and i know how to work with both acad and viz and max..

Mr. Bojanglez 23rd August 2001 02:44

grrrrrrrr

oooooo gooey stuff, in the tubes

pixelpusher 23rd August 2001 03:09

Simon..

Great design. Lets see the player part... You do great work.

As far as the tubes go. I see something inbetween the first and last
image. You can do a cool alpha blended layer over it. It would give
it a smoother look and cut down on file size. But I would consider
making them a bit smaller anyway. But it has to be scripted in order
for it to be vertical.

Also. If you put an alpha layer over your tubes. You must use the
ghost option in that layer that makes it click-though. 1+ 0-

I hope they make it so that vertical seek and volume sliders can be
made with just xml and no scripting. As I have no ability in that
area.

If you have any basic questions. Feel free to e-mail me.

hey I can't see pixel's posts...

Yes, I've got
  • AutoCAD 2000i
  • 3D Studio VIZ 3
  • 3D Studio MAX 4
and it's cool, but I'm not very good with VIZ and MAX yet. But that is just because I never had a reason to use it. :)

Same here, Only then I would be talking about the previous versions of those appz.:D

pixelpusher
Thanks
The tubes are not the right size now, I't just a screencapture. the heigt wil be about 140 pixels for the volume slider. :D
I don't know shit about Alpha channels yet, but I'll learn it soon enough i guess.

Uh, doesn't the "orientation" option do this? As in, have a line in the XML with "orientation=vertical" or some such? I'd swear I saw that somewhere. The only problem was that a vertiacl volume bar had the maximum volume at the bottom, not the top as expected. But if you want any kind of animation, you need scripting.

Riksruin 23rd August 2001 20:51

it needs to be scripted but no scripts will need to be wrote by you for it. because the scripts are downloadable from RhinoTrips Site

simon snowflake 27th August 2001 20:06

I'm glad to hear that --RIKKI--

Riksruin 27th August 2001 23:18

hehe!!

heres the link to his site.

Thx again --Rikki--.
