skin creation question
what's the software that's used to make a .wsz file, which is the file type for a winamp skin? if anyone can help me out, thanks. :)
A *.wsz file is a *.zip file with the extension renamed, so it will install in your winamp skins folder when you click on it.
yeah, I know, but how can you encode the entire thing into a .wsz file so it can install onto my winamp skins?
You use a program like winzip to zip all the files in your "myskin" folder into myskin.zip, and then you rename the file to myskin.wsz, click on that one and it installs itself.
so, all you have to do is just rename the file to a .wsz file? sounds pretty simple, but i'll see if it works.
In case of confusion:
1) Open any folder on your computer. 2) Click on View/Folder options 3) Choose View, then click OFF the box that reads "hide extentions for known file types." 4) Exit, find your (your skin).zip file 5) Erase the ".zip" at the end, and change it to ".wsz" |
uhh...I tried that, & I don't think I did that right... well, this is a skin that someone made, & it's not in .wsz format. what I'm trying to do is to get it into .wsz format so it can be installed to my winamp skins...i'm not really an expert on skin-making (obviously) so could you be able to help me out? here's where I got it:http://starwindnetwork.cjb.net/ it's in the skins section of the site. once you get it, you'll see what the problem is...I think this is very common when people are trying to make winamp skins...

I assume you dowloaded a file from there, what is the exact name of the file? (including extention)
well, didn't you look at the site I linked? anyways, the folder's name is "aishaskin2[1]," if you need to know.
Yes, I did. They are all *.zip files, but I need to know the exact name of the file you downloaded to help you.
I edited the last message, so I told you what the file name is.
If it is in a folder, you have unzipped it, that's ok. Can you still find the file you downloaded?
Should be called: aishaskin2.zip |
yeah, found it. what now?
Does the .zip part show or not?
yes. go on.
Now you have to rename it, take of the .zip and put .wsz instead.
YES!!! it worked!! thanks man, I can view it perfectly. :)

You're welcome, signing off now.

Just for future reference, if you're still reading this thread:
A wsz file is specific to Winamp. It is designed so that when you click to download one, you do not get the option Save or Run, but it is automatically run by Winamp which moves it to it's skin folder. This skin folder is usually C:\Program Files\Winamp\Skins (unless you install Winamp somewhere else or modified the skins location in Preferences). If you come to download a skin in .zip format you will be given the option to Save or RUn it unless you have a zip program (such as WinZip) which automatically loads it into WinZip. If you get this option, choose Save and save it in C:\Program Files\Winamp\Skins or your skin folder. To find out your skins location if it is different, open WinAmp, press Ctrl+P or Preferences on the main menu, go to the Skins tab, and click the Set skins directory... button. If WinZip or similar opens the file, it has been saved to your Temporary Internet Files folder and as such will nto be in Winamp's skin list. WinZip has an option on the main menu to Move the zip. If it does, move it to the skin directory. The key point is that WinAmp recognizes all .wsz as skins and moves them automatically. But if you download a zip and you save it (or move it) to the skins directory it will be recognized as a skin. Also all folders withing the skins directory act as skins which go by the name of the folder. Hope this is useful... |
