What does everyone use here for making there own skins? i want to start but i dont know what to use, adobe 6? anything else, and if i do use adobe should i just load all the parts of the base skin in and then edit them all at once, or how? any good suggestions to get a newbie off the ground and up into making skinz? any help would be appreciated thanx!

i use PSP 7
if i were u, i'd do the following
1. download WinZip
2. go to the developers section at winamp.com, and download the baseskin.zip file
3. open up baseskin.zip and start editing those bitmaps

yeah i already got the baseskin unzipped and all, how long does it normally take you guys to make a skin?

the one im working on now.. is taking me over amonth now, including 2 week break

I've got one I've been working on for nearly a year now:)
Of course, I haven't touched it for several months(waiting for the radioactivity to go down);)

Paintshop pro, Macromedia fireworks, MSpaint and notepad, altho you can add an XML editor to that list now for the WA3 stuff.

How long?

Depends on If I can get into the groove , I have stuff sat on the hard drive I've been working on for months, and then there are things like Lara, that I can do in about a week, that's usualy a week or so to create the image in PSP, many many many layers, and then a couple of days to carve it all up into a skin.

I also use a specialy crafted WA2 wire frame skin template that lets me line up those buttons and slider with pin point accuracy.

hey Mr. Jones could you send out that template(if its in PSP 5-7 format)???

i use Adobe PhotoDeluxe 2.0, Flash 5 and a tiny bit of MSPaint, with maybe a little bit of Dreamweaver Ultradev 4 for the mbinner.

*needs to get photoedito 6 or something, because photodeluxe sucks. but it gets the job done. kinda...*

it takes me about forty to fifty hours to make a full skin...

Flash for a skin?
I don't get it:confused:

I use PSP7, Photo Shop 6, Flash 5. If I get around to installing Fireworks, I might use that instead of Flash.
I do MBinner myself just by typing into a .txt.

My last skin took me around 21 hours to make (a few hours every day for a week).

i made tiffany taylor in 2 hrs... u can tell though

all other skins take about 2 weeks

it helps with getting the colours in the vis right, compound curves and really really smooth colour graduations.

i only use dreamweaver because i've got it, and it's a hell of a lot easier than typing it in. i could make webpage/site with notepad. but with typing as accurate as mine, it might take some time.

I use it to create vector shapes quickly and easily. eg. In Lucid Dream I designed most of the shape in Flash, then moved it into PSP/Photo Shop.
I also use it to design logos for my skins.

And I just thought of something. Occasionally I use Bryce 3/4 for some elements of my skins.

I can't afford PhotoShop but I find that the combination of PhotoSuite III, Picture Publisher, and Irfanview pretty much allows me do everything I'm looking to do (lots of copying and pasting) ;)
