Newbies actin up...

Now, im not talking about all newbies, and im not tryin to start something, but does anybody else notice some these recent newbies exploding over some of the smallest things?

chiquita chad 31st August 2001 02:34

yeah i have... but there are still some nice newbs out there... blip and a_s_d give newbies a bad rep

The Only Lynx 31st August 2001 07:44

czietuh gives newbies a good name

Mr Jones 31st August 2001 08:10

Newbies, newbies all around, and not a decent one among them to be found.

Acctually that's not quite true is it.

My view, if a newbie comes in all guns blazing and giving it attitude, it should be up to the more senior, respected if you like, to help those individuals see that bitching and flaming isn't the way to induct yourself into the community.

Fighting fire with fire dosn't always work, of course some people refuse to mellow and turn into model citizens, that's always going to happen, and these things get dealt with in time.

The aim of this place is to grow, expand and become the most swinging on-line community around, and it can only do this via a constant influx of new blood, everyone's a newbie at somepoint, heh, even I was, *glances at the date, almost a year now*, and I was pretty up on myself when I came in, bitching about this and that, but through kind actions of certain individuals, who helped fix my problems and so on, I grew to love this place, and turned into the dude I am now :), ok, stop snickering at the back.

I leave you with this quote from the king of groove Denzil...

Quote:

Your helpfulness and friendliness to peeps IS appreciated. Every newbie I see "queened" into a contributing member of the forums is a triumph in my eyes. I want everyone feeling that their opinions are valued here, because they are. I want people wanting their friends to join.
That's what we should all be working towards.....

RedVixen 31st August 2001 08:29

Be Friendly!!!

You guys ought to be more friendly!!!

So we're new, doesn't mean we're all bad!!! If some people come in and have 'attitude' you don't like does it mean you should be bitchy to the rest of us??? That wouldn't be very fair would it??? And as for attitude, look at you all fighting over nationality!!!

simon snowflake 31st August 2001 09:30

Ahum, may I say something about this?
Well I think, and I think there are more people who will agree, that it's quite normal to start bitching around in your first posts. I am almost sure most of us did that in their first posts. To be honest I can't remember what my first post was about, but I am not surprised if it's a bitchy one.
I think, like MR Jones said, that we are here to help the newbiaes around and teach them about the habits within the forums. They are new, they bring new styles of skins (if they are skinners) and the surly bring new opinions and critisism on our beloved subject "skinning", in the end we al have been newbies.
So don't get upset if someone starts out bitchin. Take MR Bo for example, didn't he used to be a big pain in the ass? While lately he started to write more usefull posts (still with a strange title, but better then he used to).

...Hmm talking about MR Bo, where is he? I havn't seen hime lately, and I'm not ignoring him, strange he was so sure of becomming a forum God.

He became a forum martyr instead.

And BTW RedVixen the nationality discussion was pure fun. Nobody has said anything wrong about anyone elses nationality, so I don't see the problem.

See!!! Now you guys know that, and I do too now!!! But as a newbie, it didn't look like you were playing nice to me, and that's what everyone sees when they come in here!!!

I came in as an outsider, and said I wanted help learning how to skin, and soon the thread was 'hijacked' by the regulars, taken off topic and turned into a nationality battle!!! Didn't look too friendly to me, one harmless comment that I was English from Mr Jones and a whole two page thread of we're best started up!!!

Mr Jones 31st August 2001 12:27

Topic drift, I love it:D

What your favourite Coke by the way?, mine's Cherry, mmmm, cherry *takes another sip*

ElChevelle 31st August 2001 12:29

Well, if you want to know my favorite Coke, it's the one that's Jack Daniel's flavored.;)

Wildrose-Wally 31st August 2001 12:31

I like my coke flavoured with some good Canadian Rye Whiskey.

Hm, hm, good. :p

mrsbladez 31st August 2001 12:32

Want my opinion? Good you're getting anyway, lol :p I think there's a few people in here, besides newbies that need to lighten up. Honestly the last few I have met have been nice so, not sure what is up with this whole "newbies" thing. One thing I do know is that not everyone has the same sense of humor or understands how the regulars kid around with each other. Instead of jumping on them when they become defensive because they took your comment the wrong way, explain to them what you meant OR better yet, don't make the comment or joke unless you KNOW they will get the full meaning right off the bat.

It also has alot to do with how you type your comment. Using Caps on the internet is considered yelling. If you ask a question, why not use an question mark at the end? If you make a joke, use an lol or a smile or wink that let's them know "Hey Im joking here :D ). These are the ways to distinguish tone. Otherwise you're gonna have alot more people misunderstanding what you say and that of course will lead to bicker bicker bicker. We don't want that do we? Cause you know if that happens, Mr. Jones will have to break out his can of "Whoop A**" and from the looks of his pic, he ain't afraid to use it, hehe :p (See that was a JOKE - note the caps cause Im yelling, lol )

Have Fun! folks, that's what it's all about :)

Mr Jones 31st August 2001 12:33

Ok ok, Jones no make himself clear, should have said non alcohol flavoured, I mean of course mine is vodka flavoured, but as I'm sat at work right now, id be out like shit thru a goose, if I started slugging back the clear fuel of death at my desk :D

Wildrose-Wally 31st August 2001 12:35

If I can't have no alcohol flavour, why have any flavour at all.:(

RedVixen 31st August 2001 12:44

I LOVE cherry coke, but it's so hard to get!!!

I really really wanted it the other day!!! I drove to every newsagents between work and home, and no-one had any!!! Morrisons don't stock it!!! Argh!!! The canteen at work doesn't have it!!!

It doesn't mix so well with alcohol tho!!! But I prefer my vodka Neat!!!

And Mrs Bladez, I think your opinion was spot on!!! People need to think a little bit more sometimes!!! Everywhere I mean!!! Not just here!!! Newbies included!!! More lurking time would have been good, I'm not a forum novice!!! But I only came to ask a tech support question and just got sucked in!!!

Really?, quite abundant up north, the local newsagents sells it by the two litre bottle, which I din't think they even made, and local sarnie shop to work sell the cute little 500ml bottles, it's the only thing that keeps me going during the day, that and pots of black coffee at regular intervals.

And I find it mixes ok, but I also prefer it neat.

Is this too off topic:D

The Only Lynx 31st August 2001 12:53

give me fat coke.. not some diet one.. also not pepsi.. :D

Now you're talking. I remember once drinking vodka when out with the boys when they asked me what I was drinking. I said "vodka." They said "vodka and?" I said, "and...vodka." They looked at me like I was some kind of extraterrestrial. Of course, a good, dry vodka martini, straight up, also works .

RedVixen 31st August 2001 13:02

I remeber at university, we were all out in a group, and some of the people I didn't know. A friend of a friend introduced his Girlfriend that he was clearly besotted with, boasting "She can down a shot neat!". Amazing!!! She then proved it, coughing and pulling a face. So I just had to show her up!!! ;)

I drank about 1/3 of a pint down in one, of neat vodka, without coughing or pulling a face. I can do a lot more, but that was the size of my glass!!! Of course that just set me up for a great drunken night!!! :p

BullGawD 31st August 2001 14:41

 ...and this one time - at band camp... :p :D ;)

RedVixen 31st August 2001 14:44

You stuck a flute in your pussy too???

The Only Lynx 31st August 2001 14:46

oh, there was a time on a western themed party , free pints, was in big show hall thingy.. there were indians.. nice girls.. nice indian girls, beer, cowboys, beer, arrows, beer, guns, beer, horses, did i mention beer? oh yeah.. and girls.. hehehe and beer.. i didnt even knew how i got home.. my friends carried me they said.. and i believe them.. all i remember was getting of the bus and awaking in the morning in my bed... with clothes still on

Mr Jones 31st August 2001 14:48

I once ate a live goldfish right out the tank during a particulary heavy drinking session at one party, ahhh to be 18 again , heh, and I'd still have a younger g/f :D

skinme! 31st August 2001 17:15

Cherry Cola, eh? Have you ever tried real cherry coke? Coke and Grenadine over ice with a cerry on top? MM-HMMM. After cherry coke, I'd have to go with the caffeine-free diet coke. Or pepsi. :) Damn, now I'm thirsty. And broke. Damn money.

EvilDick23 1st September 2001 03:37

Back on topic for a second

Yeah, I'm still a resident noob! but I try to maintain respect for the one's that have been here a hell of a lot longer than I have regardless of what they say. I consider it forum etiquette that you tone things down when you are new. I'm new to the Winamp forums, but not new to forums in general. Learning this lesson will allow you to interact with great people, or if you don't, get flamed to the point even Preperation H won't help. If you prove that you are willing to stick around for awhile, you'll not only grasp the humor behind what they are saying but join in as well. I'd write more but I hear a frosty beverage calling my name. Beer/Bitter/Lager/Stout/Pale/Liqour good, morning after bad.:D
