Win2k & Santa Cruz!

Athlom 1.1GHz
512Meg Ram
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card

I am using Winamp on a Win2k machine and have noticed that when I copy large files with explorer, say 3Meg or so, that the music either stops or skips a lot. When the copy is complete, the song tempo is hosed until you either restart the song or move the play location of the song.

I have scoured the Winamp discussions looking for a cure. Done all the recommended suggestions: DMA is activated for my drives, ACPI is not enabled, cranked up the buffer and max blocks for the out/in plugins, have the latest Win2k service pack, installed the latest Win2k drivers for my sound card, etc… The problem also exists (but not as bad) when using a SB PCI 128 card. I know the culprit is probably Win2K – when doing any heavy file activity, it is starving the rest of the system.

Have I overlooked anything? Any suggestions on tweaking Win2k to alleviate problem?

Thanks! :)
