What CPU do you have?

What CPU are you using on your PC?

I want to know how the Intel vs AMD fight is going on.

SSJ4 Gogitta 15th September 2001 10:40

Intel Celery (¬_¬); @ 533 MHz

I want the 70 GHz chip Motorrola is working on and a few Barracuda 180 HDDs...

And maby an FMD ROM...

*drool*

binary hero 15th September 2001 10:45

I gotta intel celery too, also @533! but I wanted an AMD K6, they look like they might just be better. I had to choose between AMD or Intel+3DFX card.

Bizznatch 15th September 2001 10:46

I have a 1ghz Athlon 266 running at 750 because if it runs at full speed Windows becomes unstable. Fucking Windows98.

mark e 15th September 2001 12:12

Intel Pentium 300 MHz (I think :p) :)

Lucid DM 15th September 2001 12:42

1 Ghz -> 1.4 ghz.
I need that 'cos otherwise my renders would take days.

klumy 15th September 2001 12:49

Intel P2-300

John M 15th September 2001 12:51

p3-536

YtseJam 15th September 2001 12:51

AMD Athlon 1.13GHz...

Bizznatch 15th September 2001 12:53

I finally got my CPU to start working at 1 ghz. I took my fan off and saw that the layers of thermal paste were completely gone and the heatsink was hitting directly against the die.

I applied shitloads of thermal paste to it again so that should last a while. :)

eleet-2k2 15th September 2001 13:19

I gots a celery-500Mhz, but next summer I'm upgrading to P4-2GHz.

You shouldn't use loads as that is bad also, just a thin layer of artic silver should do, use a lot and the effectiveness decreases

I'm using a duron 800 running at 952, multiplier 8x, cpu fsb/pci 112/37mhz, and then uppedthe fsb alone by 7 mhz.

119*8 = 952 :D

i would run the mem faster but one of me dimm's is only 100 :(

[e]The joys ot the kt7 mb[/e]:D

Psycho Puppet 15th September 2001 13:37

I have a PeeII - 233 mhz. :)
4 gig hd, 224 mb of ram, voodoo2 accel, riva 128 vid card...bleh lbeh
Its the type of computer you want to kill for a new one. heh

o_Ô

weird system you have there... LOTS of RAM, low processor speed, and low HDD space...

again... o_Ô

My kt6 died on me! :D Hence the long absence from here, had to buy new bits tho!

Psycho Puppet 15th September 2001 13:48

You see, I got my computer in 1997, it was a kick ass system. Then 98 rolled around, still good. Then 99, ehh, normal. Thne 2000, it hit bottom....2001, its digging its own whole.

The excessive ram was my attempt to speed up something on my computer.
I am not sure if I will get a new comp for a while...:(

binary hero 15th September 2001 13:52

I got ~200Meg RAM, I salvadged it from my last PC.

Budgie 15th September 2001 14:09

I actually got two computers.

My older computer was originally self-built at the beginning of 1998, yet upgraded several times. Now it is equipped with an Intel Celeron 433 Mhz @ 66 Mhz FSB, 192 MB RAM, 2 + 8 GB HDDs, 3Dfx Voodoo3 3000 AGP videocard, Creative Soundblaster PCI 64, and miscellaneous other shiznit inside :D.

My newer computer is home-built too, running an AMD Athlon 1.33 Ghz @ 266 FSB, 512 MB RAM, 60 + 40 GB HDDs in RAID-mode, GeForce 3 64 MB videocard, Audiophile 24/96 soundcard, 12x DVD drive, 16x12x40 CD-ROM burner, and some more hardware inside.

Anyways, I will stop now since all it is being asked for is the kind of CPU :D. I think in the past, Intel used to be better than AMD and the rest, providing much better FPU power, mainly. Nowadays, I think AMD is on the top right now, yet I think it might turn out to be Intel being back the best, as their RAMBUS technology seems to be able to kick AMDs ass .

Peace.

AMD K6 CPUs are inferior to Intel Celery, as they have a much weaker and less powerful FPU. The Celery seem to have less L2 Cache, but it runs @ full CPU core speed, making it almost even again :). Even the K6-2's 3DNow! - instructions don't cut it in most cases.

Peace.

Matt 15th September 2001 14:35

an AMD Athlon 1.2GHz

millenniumviperx 15th September 2001 14:42

i'm pleased with it.

John M 16th September 2001 02:51

hey, my comp said 533 on the box and yet it runs at 536, so i'm happy. i wish i could clock the sucker, but the bios wont have it. (that and theres just a sink and a fan to cool)

cino 16th September 2001 04:43

P4 2.0ghz with 512RD ram. :D

mr_sax 16th September 2001 06:36

u grab the phreakin celery by it's phreakin neck and u over-clock that bitch it'll flyyyyyyyyyyyyy away!!!

OVER-CLOCK to about 150mhz faster than what it's doing now, it won't over heat (tho then again another fan might not hurt) and it'll go hella fast ('cause celeron's are supposed to be over-clocked)

Curi0us_George 16th September 2001 09:37

Celerons are not supposed to be overclocked. Celerons have locked multipliers. Overclocking a Celeron requires overclocking the Front-Side Bus. Overclocking the front-side bus means overclocking the AGP, the PCI Bus, the Memory Bus, and basically, everything else, too. Overclocking the PCI bus results in a great deal of instability.

So, basically, the Celerons, are definitely not meant to be overclocked.

thepisu 16th September 2001 10:20

46 votes, and by no Intel is winning (24-21).

But which CPU are really the best, comparing cost, power and stability? I mean for normal PC usage.

Kalervo Manni 16th September 2001 10:46

AMD K6-2 350@400 and P166MMX on older PC.

vivekxaero 16th September 2001 17:02

p111 600mhz
WINDOWS (* SUCKS

Any modern processor from either Inel or AMD should be stable (barring the PIII 1.113 Ghz fiasco).

So, comparing cost and power, AMD wins. A 1.7 Ghz Pemtium 4 is just about on par with the 1.4 Ghz Athlon. And, the Athlon 1.4 Ghz costs less than the Pentium 4 1.3 Ghz.

steady puffin' 17th September 2001 01:12

wait never mind... i meant to click on Intel, shit.
